Evan Buckley and the Relaxing Benefits of Coloring

In Monday night's 9-1-1 episode What's Your Fantasy?, Evan "Buck" Buckley was babysitting his adorable niece Jee-Yun Buckley-Han and one of the first activities they were doing was coloring. However, it didn't go so well with her being so active and energetic and running all over his apartment (it's a really funny scene) until she tired herself out and was sleeping upstairs in his bedroom.

After that little adventure in babysitting, his apartment was a mess and he was tired and probably a little stressed. And the only activity he probably had energy for was to color. So while his adorable niece was taking a nap, he relaxed with a nice calming activity of coloring while he waited for his big sister Maddie Buckley and her boyfriend (who is also Buck's good friend and co-worker) Howard "Chimney" Han to come back and pick up their daughter.

Watching this scene made me remember when coloring books for adults was a big craze or trend a few years ago. Although, the trend has died down, there are some really good benefits to coloring. Not only is it a fun way to relax but it can help in lowering our stress levels. According to the Mayo Clinic article Coloring is good for your health, "Coloring is a healthy way to relieve stress. It calms the brain and helps your body relax. This can improve sleep and fatigue while decreasing body aches, heart rate, respiration, and feelings of depression and anxiety."

If you're looking for a stress relief option perhaps try coloring, it's a great way to unwind and relax. Since there is no right or wrong way to color, you're more focused on the enjoyment of the activity allowing you to relax. Not sure what coloring book to get, don't worry there are so many different types to choose from and you don't have to only buy the ones for adults. So, if you see one with some of your favorite characters or images that interest you, why not get it. Just don't forget the crayons or color pencils and then settle down for a relaxing moment of coloring.
