Fandom Friday: Random Fandom Thoughts #32: Jem and the Holograms movie and Evan Buckley and Edmundo Diaz

Happy Friday! Hey, how's everyone doing? It is so cold but I'm keeping warm. And since it's Friday, what are some of your fandom thoughts? Well, here are two of mine:

- I think the Jem and the Holograms movie which was loosely based on the classic 1980s animated series of the same name, would have done so much better at the Box Office and with movie goers if it had been called something else. But calling it Jem and the Holograms and using the names of the characters only made fans of the classic series excited for the movie. However, unfortunately it had absolutely no resemblance to the source material. I understand making changes but there were so many unnecessary changes that it was Jem and the Holograms in name only.

For instance, I still don't know why they made Jerrica Benton, Shana Elmsford, Kimber Benton and Aja Leith teens instead of 20-somethings. Why was Synergy nothing more than a kid's toy? I can't get over how Jerrica and Kimber don't own Starlight Music like they do in the animated series. But Rio Pacheco does, it was due to his father leaving it to him in his will (although Rio didn't know it since his mother didn't tell him). And why was Rio the son of Erica Raymond? And why were the Misfits not in the movie? That end credit doesn't count because they should have been in the actual movie.

If this movie was simply just a story about a group of teen girls who found themselves catapulted (by a ruthless manager) into becoming rock stars. And got help from the manager's son to create the group and image that they wanted then this would have been a fun little teen movie. However, instead of getting Christy Marx, who created Jem and the Holograms, to write the screenplay for the movie, they went with a generic teen rock star story and just added the Jem and the Holograms title and characters names to it. Unfortuantely, this movie was doomed from the start. And after the trailer was released, that pretty much cemented it, because all it did was make fans not interested in seeing it which resulted in it bombing at the Box Office.

- 9-1-1 characters Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz and Evan "Buck" Buckley were included in the fairly recent US magazine article It’s About Time! TV Couples We Need to See Get Together in 2023. At this point, it makes no sense why Buck and Eddie haven't gotten the chance to be together. They have more chemistry with each other than they ever had with any of their love interests. And not to mention the way they continue to be written and it just seems like a wasted opportunity not to even consider puting them together.
