Aaron: I want to run something by you. I have a place in Big Sur. I was thinking that we can get away for the weekend, hike, go on the beach.
Athena: No. I can't go away with you. I'm not even divorced yet.
Aaron: It's a formality.
Athena: No. It's not. I just got out of a 14-year marriage to a guy I thought I knew. I'm figuring out how to be single at 50. I'm not looking to jump into another relationship. I want sеx with no strings. I don't need dinners or weekend getaways.
I got married because my biological clock was ticking. I stayed married for the kids. I'm getting divorced for myself. I'm not ready for this. And you... You are too good to be somebody's rebound guy.
~ Aaron Brooks and Athena Grant, 9-1-1 season 1 episode 9: Trapped
It's interesting that Aaron was presented as the perfect guy for Athena. He was nice, charming, a great cook (pretty much a gourmet chef), funny, witty and sophisticated. To me, he felt like a combination between her ex-husband Michael Grant and soon to be future husband Robert "Bobby" Nash. What I found interesting is that despite Aaron being a really great guy, Athen knew she wasn't ready for another relationship. She was still trying to figure who she was and what she now wanted out of a relationship. She did a good thing by being honest and ending things because trying to force herself into something serious would have eventually hurt both of them in the end.
