Entertainment News #55: All American, Lou Ferrigno Jr and Rochelle Aytes

- The CW has cancelled the college centered TV series All American: Homecoming after three season. The upcoming third and now final season which will premiere on Monday, July 8th. All American: Homecoming is a spinoff from All American which has been renewed by The CW for a seventh season. Congratulations to All American for getting renewed.

It continues to be disappointing that so many shows keep getting cancelled. I wish there was a way for shows to find an audience before getting cancelled.

- Actor Lou Ferrigno Jr who currently guest stars on 9-1-1 and has a recurring role on S.W.A.T. had some of his old Instagram posts unearthed. And the posts showcase racism, sexism, ableism and fatphobia disguised as humor. Since the old posts have been making the rounds online, many 9-1-1 fans have been rather upset and voicing their complaints online and to ABC. And unfortunately, the actor has not posted a statement or apology. In trying to respond to someone on Twitter who questioned the actor about those old Instagram posts, Ferrigno Jr posted a bizarre and ableist response that was later deleted.

So instead of really addressing anything, he has simply deleted many of those old Instagram posts. I wonder if he is trying to ignore the controversy and hoping it will go away. As with another 9-1-1 guest actress Edy Ganem (who played Marisol), who also tried to ignore her own Instagram controversy, they don't seem to realize that what you post online, someone is bound to see. Especially if it's something hateful.

- Actress Rochelle Aytes has joined the cast of the new upcoming CBS series Watson as main character Dr. Mary Morstan. The actress most recently played Nichelle Carmichael on S.W.A.T. (which is also on CBS) for several seasons. It's been reported that she was not invited back as a series regular on the show. However, the S.W.A.T. producers are hoping she will have a recurring role on the show. Her character Nichelle not only runs a community center as a source of change within the community but she is also the wife of Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson Jr and the mother of their daughter Vivian.

I like Nichelle and her amazing chemistry with Hondo. I hate to see the character not appear on the show but if the actress' role was reduced from main to a possible recurring character, why not seek other acting opportunities. Hopefully, she can still appear on S.W.A.T. I do wonder how likely it will be especially since usually when an actor is a main character on a show, they don't normally appear on another show.
