Review:

This was okay but it was trying to do too much from aliens to monsters to mad scientists nothing was left out. There was also too many points of view shown which slowed down the momentum of the story as well as switching back and forth from the present to the past.

Monster Squad: The Iron Golem is a boring middle grade version of the Penny Dreadful TV series with notable fictional characters, writers and actors (for instance Lon Chaney) of horror worked into the story from Mina Harker to Dr. Victor von Frankenstein. Many of their names may have been the same but they were given a few changes to coincide with this story.

The story opens with two flashbacks, the first had Dr. Frankenstein surveying the damage his monster was causing while the second showed a group of various researchers and military officers. In the group was Mina Harker, Edgewick Stoker, Lonn Cheney, Peter Murphy, Ian van Helsing who were in Roswell checking out a crash site when they stumble upon a strange craft and an even stranger being.

Then the story shifts to the present, where the reader is introduced to Blaine Davies a 7th grader who is going back to school after summer break ends. She's also dealing with being the odd duckling out of her family. Blaine is adopted and very artsy whereas her parents and older sister are bit more Type A.

As the story progressed, the reader is introduced to the soon to be Monster Squad: Blaine, her best friend Shelley Mary, her other friend Daschle Gaunt and new student Drake Harker.

I started to quickly lose interest the more I read, this was just not a good read for me. Okay this is a minor issue and probably a little nitpicky but I got so tired of constantly seeing thru written when through should have been used.
