Top Ten Tuesday list hosted by The Broke and The Bookish
Happy 1st day of October and Happy Tuesday!
I love trying to put together these list. They're interesting to think about. This Tuesday's list is about the ten things that turn you off while reading a book. I'm not a book snob at all and so a book has to truly work really hard to make me dislike what I'm reading.
For more things that might put me off a book please read my TTT for Words/Topics That Will Make Me NOT Pick Up a Book
So here are my 10 book turn-offs:
1. When the story loses focus and starts going in a completely different route or turns into nothing more than gratuitous sex and violence with no plot.
2. When the writing is so awful that I'm about to stop reading it.
3. Something that annoys me is when a female character is written as a ditzy, damsel-in-distress but is constantly described as being a smart and strong competent person.
4. When characters that are in their late twenties and early thirties are acting like teenagers instead of their age.
5. Domineering, pushy characters especially if they are the love interest.
6. When a book is so overly explanatory or descriptive that I feel like I'm reading a text book.
7. When a book starts out good then turns into a slow moving boring story.
8. When I feel no connection to the story or characters as the story moves along.
9. Useless characters that add nothing to the story or are only used as plot devices.
10. When a book has way too many clichés. It's as if the author couldn't come up with anything original.
