Book: Green Arrow volume #1: The Midas Touch (issues #1-3) written by J.T. Krul (issues #4-6) co-written by Keith Giffen and Dan Jurgens

Review:
I read the single issues and not the trade edition shown.
Disappointing is all I can say for the first six issues of Green Arrow. This book may show a superhero who wears green and shoots arrows but this was not Green Arrow. There is nothing interesting about him or his villains. Everything from the writing to the artwork just feels so bland, boring and generic. This book would be fine if it was a random superhero but not for Green Arrow.
The writing is immature and borders on being sexist at times. This felt like I was reading the equivalent to one of those overly done generic teen shows, no substance at all. There is nothing in these two stories that tells you why Ollie is going out as Green Arrow. If I didn't already know who GA was this certainly would have left me wondering why this pretty much useless arrogant frat boy is out there trying to fight crime.
This volume included two stories. The first story (issues #1-3) had Green Arrow taking on a group of meta-villains led by a guy called Rush who tapes all of their crimes and murders and put them on the internet. They're thrill seekers who are looking for the ultimate rush (no pun intended) by trying to kill Green Arrow while broadcasting it live over the internet.
The last three issues found GA trying to figure out why this toxic man/creature and this super powered ninja lady were trying to acquire some information on Oliver Queen.
Neither stories were really that interesting. Does anyone know why Oliver Queen now lives in Seattle, WA instead of Star City? Oh, and he's not even running his own company, he's constantly getting scolded as if he was a kid by Emerson, the CEO of Queen Industries. With the way this is going I wouldn't be surprised if Emerson has a plan to get rid of Ollie so he can take over the company.
The Oliver Queen/Green Arrow in this series is lacking a lot of things besides his sidekick Speedy (Mia Dearden) but also a personality and common sense. Also, when did he start needing someone to create his weapons (Jax) and not to mention he now has tech support (Naomi). See what I mean about being useless, he needs someone to feed him info and make him gadgets.
Something else that turned out to be a total let down was the promised appearance of Black Canary in issue #3. Except she was no where to be found. It was stated at the end of the second issue that BC would show up, perhaps the writer forgot or something.
This failed on so many levels, but mainly it lacked an interesting character and story lines. I don't care if Green Arrow is young or old (he's young in this series), I just want a well written and interesting story. As the first six issues they should have readers hooked and clamoring for more but these just leave me feeling like I wasted time reading them. It's sad to see how one of my favorite characters has been reduced to. Hopefully, the next group of issues will be a much better read because this one certainly wasn't.
