by Book Girl
It almost seems unnecessary now of days for authors to do book tours especially with the internet and social media. A writer can probably reach more potential readers through twitter or through their personal blog/website instead of traveling around doing book signings.
I still think book signings and tours are good especially for the more well known authors, odd are more readers would show up for J.K. Rowling or James Patterson than someone who just recently released a book.
Something I thought was pretty interesting was some authors are doing blog tours, where they do a question and answer segment or as a guest writer or have free giveaways. Some authors even have free giveaways on tweeter. For instance, last year I was one of the first of 12 people to enter an impromptu contest and I received a free book from Patrick Scullin, the writer and illustrator of the comic book series Super Siblings.
There are so many different things authors can do now to get more publicity than the traditional book tour.
What do you think? Are book tours still worth it?
