Book Review: Fall For You

Book: Fall For You (The Jane Austen Academy series book #1) by Cecilia Gray

Description:

Dive into the fabulous, fun lives of six Academy girls as their friendships are tested, torn and ultimately triumph…

To say Lizzie and Dante are polar opposites is the understatement of the century. He’s a snooty Exeter transfer with more money than Google. She’s a driven study-a-holic just barely keeping up with tuition. It’s obvious that Dante thinks he’s way too good for Lizzie. And Lizzie knows Dante is a snob with a gift for pressing her buttons.

But things are changing fast this year at the Academy. And when Lizzie’s quest to stop those changes blows up in her face, taking her oldest friendship with it, she has nowhere else to turn but to Dante, with his killer blue eyes, his crazy-sexy smile, and his secrets… Secrets Lizzie can’t seem to leave alone, no matter how hard she tries…

* * *

The last thing that the girls at the elite Jane Austen Academy need is hot guys to flirt with. But over the summer the school has been sold, and like it or not, the guys are coming. And it’s about to turn the Academy—and the lives of its students—totally upside down…

The Jane Austen Academy series are modern retellings of Jane Austen classics set at a beachside California boarding school. Don't miss the rest of the Jane Austen Academy series, where sassy girls, hot guys and Jane Austen collide.

Review:

This was a very interesting retelling of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. I bought this back in March of this year (yeah, I know I'm getting better at not waiting until forever to read them) and the description had me really wanting to read it. I'm usually a little iffy about retellings but I found this one to be rather good.

I enjoyed both the characters and the story.

In Fall For You, returning student Elizabeth "Lizzie" Egmont was eager to get back to her beloved school the Jane Austen Academy especially after all the new changes that were taking place such as the school having a new owner whom refuses to be known as well as the admittance of guys to the school. There was no way Lizzie was going to sit back and let all of these changes go by unquestioned. Even though she was a reporter on her school's paper and have wrote several articles about all the soon to be changes during the end of last school year she wanted to do more to keep the students informed.

And no matter how tough the fight was going to be at least she would still have her best friend Ellie to support her especially since they were going to be roommates this year. But even that didn't work out for her because as soon as she and Ellie got to what was supposed to be their room they found out they were going to be each rooming with someone else. Ellie was going to sharing a room with Emma and Lizzie with Anne (her nemesis).

Not liking the arrangement one bit, Lizzie and Anne went to the newly appointed Headmistress Katherine Berge or Bergie as the students call her.

Was Lizzie going to stand her ground and fight for her roommate situation or did Bergie just give her the perfect way to fight the new changes at school by offering her the Editor-in-Chief position for the school paper and Anne the chance to plan the school's Welcome Back Party.

But trying to change the school and deal with Bergie wasn't her only problems, Lizzie and Ellie seem to be drifting apart. They're friendship doesn't seem to be as strong as it used to be. But aside from friendship issues, Lizzie is constantly being annoyed by the new student Dante Braxton who is nothing but a cold and arrogant jerk who seems to be looking down his nose at her. There was absolutely no way she was going to fall for him.

As much as I enjoyed this there were a few of things that stood out to me that kind of annoyed me. The first was some of the wording because I couldn't fathom any teenager ever referring to drugs as pharmaceuticals. That just does sound right. I also couldn't believe Dante with the way he was written would ever say bro. It seemed a little out of character.

Besides those things I thought the author did a good job with all the characters and with the story. The story was fun and interesting and the characters had personalities and even the characters that only had a few moments in the story stood out. For fans of Jane Austen's work it should be quite easy to figure out who the characters are even with the modern take on them. As a Austen fan, I was very pleasantly surprised by how wonderful and entertaining this was.

I'm looking forward to reading more from this series.
