Review:
Since I read this in a day, I thought to just post my review instead of making an additional post for currently reading.
This was selected to read by my Harry Potter book club where the group always has a selection of fantasy based books to read and vote on.
This was my first time reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and I thought the story was good. The story has four siblings Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy traveling out to the country to stay with a Professor during the war. And on one rainy day while the children were playing hide and seek, Lucy decided to hide in an old wardrobe. She ended up finding more than just forgotten clothes, she found another world. After exploring and then meeting a new friend Lucy returned through the wardrobe to tell her brothers and sister about her strange adventure.
But they didn't believe her, they just thought she was lying and making up stories. Her siblings not believing her story went on for a while and she received a lot of vicious taunting from Edmund who enjoyed tormenting her. Some time later on another rainy day, the children were back to playing hide and seek and again Lucy went to hide in the wardrobe but this time Edmund followed her and found out for himself that her story was true.
However, something happened while he was there that had him making up a lie to both Peter and Susan that Lucy was lying about the secret world instead of telling them the truth that he was there.
It was some time later that all four kids were entering the wardrobe and finding the secret world which lead to them trying to save Narnia from an evil Queen.
Like I said the story was good but I think I would have enjoyed it even more if there was some character development. But for a little kid this story is probably perfect for them because it's an easy to follow story that's filled with action and adventure set in a fantasy world. The only problem I had with this book was since this was publish some many years ago, the girls (Susan and Lucy) didn't get to fight in the battle mainly because they were girls. But that can be more easily over looked as an adult because of the age of the book but an inquisitive child might ask questions.
Reading this does make me interested in seeing if the library has the rest of the books in the series. I would like to know what other adventures the siblings got themselves into.
