Book Review: Red Blooded

Book: Red Blooded (Jessica McClain book #4) by Amanda Carlson

Source: Borrowed from Publisher/NetGalley for an honest review

Publication: Available now

Description:

Jessica is going to Hell.

After settling a fragile truce between the vampires, werewolves and witches, the last thing Jessica wants to do is face the demons head on. But when the Prince of Hell kidnapped her brother, he set into motion a chain of events that even Jessica doesn't have the power to stop.

Now, Jessica must go into battle again. But Hell is a whole new beast—new rules, more dangerous demons, and an entirely foreign realm. And when Jessica is dropped into the Underworld too soon, without protection or the help of her friends, she must figure out just how powerful she can be... or she will never make it out alive.

Review:

This was okay but I felt there was too much going on. I didn't really like the writing style which was in the first person and had the main character Jessica McClain pretty much telling everything she saw and did.

The story begins with Jessica in training with a group of witches and other supernatural friends to get herself ready to go into the Underworld to get her brother Tyler who was abducted by the Prince of Hell. But somehow the training session went wrong and Jessica was heading to the Underworld ahead of schedule.

Once she got there she had to avoid one situation after another until she was trapped and had to make a deal with a demoness (a female demon) who agreed to help Jessica find her brother on the condition that Jessica will let her leave the Underworld.

But that's as far as I got because I couldn't get into this story. No one really had a personality and the writing despite having these action or dramatic scenes didn't feel that exciting. There were some scenes that were interesting but not enough for me to keep reading.

It's been a while since I haven't finished reading a book but it was hard to connect with the story and the characters. I guess this just wasn't for me.
