Shana Elsmford is probably the only rock star that can actually design her own clothes. In between being Jem and the Holograms' back up singer and bass guitarist (formerly the drums) and caring for the Starlight girls, Shana designs all the clothes for the group whether it's for tours, promotional appearances, videos and more. Now that's a lot of clothes. Yes, they could just have Synergy put holograms of stylish clothes on them which they have on occasion but Shana is one of the best and she loves creating new outfits for the band. She doesn't just design the clothes, she makes sure they fit each of the members' personality and style. Shana's designs are so good even The Misfits want them.
In the first season episode "In Stitches" Zipper was hired by Eric Raymond to steal Shana's clothes and designs for The Misfits because there was no way they could compete with her designs for the Fashion Contest since their designer was a no show. For the contest each band that was selected was to have their designer create new outfits that they would model. Shana ended up winning not only for Jem and the Holograms but also for The Misfits. Now that's a great honor.
Despite her busy schedule she also makes time to create new clothes for the Starlight girls and to mentor Ashley (one of the Starlight girls) on designing. Such a busy lady and she even still has time to spend with her boyfriend Anthony Julian.
Now I know we can't all design our own clothes but we can be our own stylist. When out shopping or doing a little online shopping why not pick something that you wouldn't normally think to wear. Maybe you've never worn skinny jeans, why not give them a try or wear a color you've never worn before. Let your personality show, you can be as bright and colorful as you want or not, it's up to you.
