Geek Chic Challenge: Make Time For The Things You Love

I love art but I've been so busy that I haven't had time to draw or paint. Last year, one of my goals was to go back to creating art. When I was a kid, I remember spending so many hours happily drawing, painting or doing some simple art projects. Although reading was and still is my number #1 interest, art is a close second. Which is why it's so weird that I some how over time completely let go of one of my favorite interests. I still love going to the museum to look at art exhibits, finding cool artwork online, buying art from artists and buying art of books. However, I stopped creating my own art.

(Shadowhunters season 2 episode 2 "A Door into the Dark")

One of the things I love about Clary Fray from the Shadowhunters TV series is that despite her life immediately changing once she stumbled into the world of the supernatural, she never abandoned her love of art. Prior to becoming a Shadowhunter, Clary had gotten accepted into the Brooklyn Academy of Art but even though she had to give up that dream, she still found time throughout the series to create some art.

(Shadowhunters season 2 episode 2 "A Door into the Dark")

I keep telling myself that whenever I find the time I'm going to create art again. However, since that has yet to happen, I'm going to challenge myself to make time for it. If I can find the time to do everything I have to do daily, I can certainly find a little time for art.

I truly feel inspired, I think I'll take my sketch book off the shelf and draw a little something today.

Geek Chic Challenge: Wear a "Captain Marvel" T-Shirt When You See the Movie

Would anyone be interesting doing a Captain Marvel Geek Chic Challenge? The challenge is easy, all you would have to do is wear a Captain Marvel t-shirt whenever you go see the movie which is in theaters on March 8th. I thought it would be a great way to show our excitement for the movie.

I'm posting this now, to give anyone (such as myself) enough time to get a shirt before the movie hit theaters. If anyone is looking for a shirt, I've seen a lot really cool (and affordable) ones out there from the Disney store to a host other stores (Hot Topic, Target, etc.).

Below are three shirts that I found:

I can't believe I forgot to post the last Geek Chic post. Well, since it is the last post, I wanted to find something totally amazing.

How can you not love those little Minions? They are a total fan favorite and it's not hard to see why they got their own movie. They're so adorably crazy and always causing trouble. This Minions pack includes (from top to bottom and left to right):  Bob, Stuart, Dave and Kevin.

Total Cuteness.

30 Days of Geek Chic, Day 29: A Spider-Man Mr. Potato Head

After yesterday's shooting in California, I didn't feel like posting anything let alone anything for Geek Chic. Which means that now I will be posting both yesterday's and today's post today.

I saw this Spider-Man Mr. Potato Head and knew I had to post it. Isn't this little spud cute? I think this would be a fun addition to any Spider-Man or Mr. Potato Head collector.

30 Days of Geek Chic, Day 28 Challenge: Don't Settle

How do people get into ruts? Doing the same thing day after day. You hear people all the time saying they want to lose weight and get into shape, save money, become an actor, find a new job or start a business, make a difference, etc. but do nothing about it.

They wind up settling instead of taking a chance to go after their dreams or goals. How often do we sit and binge watch hours of TV (myself included) or read about characters having amazing adventures? Why not take one or two of those hours and apply it to working to fulfill your dreams.

The Geek Chic challenge for today is not to settle. If it's something you want to do, go after it.

30 Days of Geek Chic, Day 27: A Spider-Gwen T-Shirt

I like Gwen Stacy but I was never a huge fan of the character, I always thought she was just okay. I'm more of a Mary Jane Watson fan. However, I like the concept of Gwen being Spider-Gwen. That was an interesting change for the character.

I think this T-shirt is pretty cool, I definitely like how bright pink the shirt is.

30 Days of Geek Chic, Day 26: Wonder Woman: The Complete Newspaper Strip (Book)

Tomorrow, I have several book reviews I will be posting but until then here is today's Geek Chic pick, a Wonder Woman book.

I'm always looking for something new or different to add to my Wonder Woman collection and this is a book I recently added to my wishlist, Wonder Woman: The Complete Newspaper Strip 1944-1945. It features all the newspaper strips from WW's short lived comic strip.

I think it would be interesting to read some of these old comic strips especially since William Moulton Marston had wrote them.

Wonder Woman: The Complete Newspaper Strip 1944-1945 by William Moulton Marston with illustrations by Harry G. Peters

Description:

Just a few years after she burst into comic books, the world's most famous female superhero starred in her own daily newspaper strip written and drawn by the same creative team that produced the comic book: William Moulton Marston and Harry G. Peters. The strip lasted a little more than a year and a half - from May 1, 1944 until December 1, 1945 - and is reprinted here for the first time. It all starts on Paradise Island where Amazonian women rule supreme and no men are allowed. Led by Princess Diana, their way of life is about to change when Steve Trevor, a wounded American soldier, washes up on their shores. Soon, Diana - rechristened Wonder Woman - is off to America, where the saga continues!

30 Days of Geek Chic, Day 25: A Crochet Headband

I think this headband is very Geek Chic, it's cute but it also doesn't look like something you would see everywhere. This also has a very retro look to it, especially the details in the flowers.

30 Days of Geek Chic, Day 24: Funko Captain America

I really did like Avengers: Age of Ultron but I didn't think it was as good as The Avengers movie mainly because I felt like the movie was trying to do too much. Four things the movie didn't need (which I hope are not spoilers to anyone):

1) The Avengers hiding out on the farm. Those scenes were boring and did nothing but drag out the movie.

2) Hawkeye's family. There was no point in giving him a family nor including them in the movie.

3) The romance between the Black Widow and the Hulk. That was really unnecessary.

4) Killing off Quicksilver. He was awesome, why would they kill him off?

Something I did like about that movie were Captain America's scenes, he really is a scene stealer. Which is why today's Geek Chic pick is this adorable little Funko Captain America from the Avengers: Age of Ultron movie.

30 Days of Geek Chic, Day 23 Challenge: Acts of Kindness

Acts of kindness don't have to be something big or only done on certain occasions. Doing an act of kindness makes you look at the world and see how you can make a difference.

The challenge for today (or any day) is to do a simple act of kindness. It could be whatever you want it to be as long as it's done from the heart.

30 Days of Geek Chic, Day 22: An Ahsoka Lives T-Shirt

My interest in Star War Rebels varies, I only started watching the show again because of Ahsoka Tano, Captain Rex, Darth Vader and on the occasion of seeing Lando Calrissian from time to time. I'm not enjoying the show as much as I did with Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, that show was just unrivaled.

It goes without saying that I'm a Star Wars fan but one of the best newly created characters was Ahsoka Tano. When she first showed up in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated movie, many fans didn't know what to think of her but I was immediately a fan. She was a pint size plucky little apprentice to Anakin Skywalker and with the cancellation of The Clone Wars animated series many fans (including myself) wondered what was to become of her.

Whoever at Disney that had the bright idea to add Ahsoka to Star Wars Rebels deserves a raise because she along with the other characters I mentioned above are the only thing that keeps me watching that show.

As an Ahsoka fan, this T-shirt is a must buy for me. I have to get this.

30 Days of Geek Chic, Day 21: Christmas Ornaments

I don't usually like to think about Christmas until after Thanksgiving, but I wanted to make today's Geek Chic post about Christmas Ornaments. I'm a fan of all types of ornaments from the traditional round ones to the ones with characters, the latter is what I focused on today.

From Star Trek to Star Wars and everything in between, these are just a tiny selection of Geek Chic ornaments that are out there.

30 Days of Geek Chic, Day 20: A Katana Statue

There was not a lot of good things that came out of the New 52 from the poor writing to so many of the characters having undergone severe changes. However, I was pleasantly surprised that like the New 52 Birds of Prey version of Katana. She was one of the best things about that mediocre series which ended up being cancelled.

I really like this statue, isn't it cool? This is something I can definitely see sitting on my bookcase.

30 Days of Geek Chic, Day 19: A Roy Lichtenstein Mug

I love art hence why I'm always posting some kind of art of the day. For today's Geek Chic I found this mug by artist Roy Lichtenstein.

He was famous for creating these amazing pop art images which were sometimes influenced by comic book illustrations.

As a comic book fan, I just love the print on this mug because it looks like a scene from an old comic book.

30 Days of Geek Chic, Day 18: Wonder Woman Underwear Set

As a little kid who didn't imagine being Wonder Woman posing in the classic hands on hips superhero pose. This underwear set may not have the same magic as your imagination but it will still have you feeling like the Amazon Princess.

This is a really cute set.

30 Days of Geek Chic, Day 17: A Thor Statue

Ooh, I so want this Thor statue.

I love all the details that are in this. From the helmet all the way to the boots the sculptor did a good job with this. The painting looks good too.

Now this is a statue that I would love to add to my collection.

30 Days of Geek Chic, Day 16: Death Star Cookie Jar

As a long-time Star Wars fan there are days when I spot something like this Death Star Cookie Jar and it just makes me smile.

Since I don't eat a lot of cookies, I would probably put candy in it instead.

30 Days of Geek Chic, Day 15: The Big Bang Theory LEGO Kit

It's been quite a while since I was a little kid playing with LEGOs but this The Big Bang Theory kit just might be worth strolling through the toy aisles for. I am a huge fan of The Big Bang Theory and I love that unlike some LEGO kits (see some of the Scooby-Doo kits), all of the main characters are included in this.

The only reason I could probably think of for not picking this up is, it's rather on the pricey side but on the plus side it does include everything shown.

30 Days of Geek Chic, Day 14: Funko Princess Tiana

I love The Princess and the Frog movie besides having a wonderful story, it's all about Tiana's dream to open her own restaurant. She worked very hard as a waitress and she didn't let anything derail her dreams of opening her own restaurant not even turning into a frog changed that.

Today's Geek Chic pick is this adorable little Funko Princess Tiana and frog Naveen. Are they not just the cutest thing?

30 Days of Geek Chic, Day 13: A Jem and the Holograms Compact Mirror

When I think of Jem and the Holograms, I think of glamour and glitter as well as fashion and fame.

I was search the Sephora website when I spotted this compact. I had no idea there was a Jem and the Holograms collections probably to coincide with the movie. I like this mirror although according to some of the reviewers there's not a magnification side it's just regular mirror. Most likely it's the packaging that you would really be paying for, regardless I think it's pretty cool.
