Book: Rot & Ruin volume #1: Warrior Smart by Jonathan Maberry

Source: Borrowed Publisher/NetGalley for an honest review

Publication: April 21, 2015

Publisher: IDW Publishing

Description:

An action-packed coming-of-age tale, “Rot & Ruin” #1 delivers the wicked humor, the gore, and crazy kills that come with the zombie apocalypse. A group of plucky teenagers have to find a way to grow up in the midst of the undead hunting after them. The premise is quickly established so that story can jump right ahead into zombies getting their heads chopped off.

Review:

This was a pretty standard zombie story about four teenagers trying to survive in a zombie infested apocalyptic world.

Rot & Ruin centers around Benny Imura, his girlfriend Nix Riley, his best friend Lou Chong and a girl Lilah who had been living in the woods prior to them meeting. The four are trying to make their way east in hopes of trying to locate a plane they saw fly by a few months ago.

On there way they found themselves trapped by a horde of zombies and to escape they took refuge in an abandoned hospital. They ended getting help from a young pregnant woman who took them to her home which was a huge farm/compound where they met the leader, Farmer John. He had showed them around and gave them his speech about trying to take back the world as well as repopulate it. But once they found out what his real plan was the teens refused to have any part of it.

This was okay but it was extremely predictable and could be a little boring at times. In a way it felt like I'd already seen this story a million times before. There was nothing new or different here, it's just another run of the mill zombie story.
