Book Review: Zombies: More Recent Dead

Book: Zombies: More Recent Dead edited by Paula Guran

Source: Borrowed from Publisher/NetGalley for an honest review

Publication: Available now

Description:

The living dead are more alive than ever! Zombies have become more than an iconic monster for the twenty-first century: they are now a phenomenon constantly revealing as much about ourselves - and our fascination with death, resurrection, and survival - as our love for the supernatural or post-apocalyptic speculation. Our most imaginative literary minds have been devoured by these incredible creatures and produced exciting, insightful, and unflinching new works of zombie fiction. We've again dug up the best stories published in the last few years and compiled them into an anthology to feed your insatiable hunger...

Rating: 3 stars

Review:

I will admit it has taken me a lot longer to read this, that's mainly because I would read a story then take several days (or a few weeks) before reading another one.

There are 36 stories in this anthology and with so many different takes on the zombie story there is bound to be a favorite story for everyone. Some stories I really liked, others I found to be boring while some just didn't make any sense. There were also a few poems.

I noticed a few reviewers have mentioned that this book seems to suffer from quantity over quality in regards to stories selected and I have to agree with them. There are some good stories here but overall there are more stories that just seem sort of meh (it's the best word I can think of to describe it).
