Book Review: Killer Heels

Book: Killer Heels (Molly Forrester Mystery book #1) by Sheryl J. Anderson

Rating: 1 star

Review:

I thought this was going to be a fun read but sadly it turned into a mediocre bore. This was a very light cozy mystery that tried to have a Sex and the City feel but as a mystery it was moving too slow for me. The mystery solving was crawling by as Molly tried to solve the murder.

Killer Heels was about 30-something Molly Forrester who works as an advice columnist for Zeitgeist magazine. One night when she went back to the magazine's office to show her good friend Cassady the latest art piece the company acquired, they stumbled upon the body of Molly's co-worker Teddy Reynolds.

Even though Molly didn't really know Teddy, she still wanted to help the police solve his murder. But she also had an ulterior motive for wanting to solve it, she wanted to be taken seriously as a journalist and possibly get a story published about the murder.

This was not the most engaging story or mystery and Molly and her two friends Cassady and Tricia seemed to be very inspired by the four main characters on Sex and the City. Molly was a transparent Carrie Bradshaw who loved designer clothes and enjoying all the hotspots of Manhattan. While Cassady, a lawyer was a combination of Samantha Jones and Miranda Hobbs and Tricia, an event planner was very much like Charlotte York.

I was so bored with this story and with Molly's inner monologue and her annoying romance issue. As with most cozy mysteries, this had the start of a love triangle. Molly was in a relationship with a fellow writer named Peter but she was bored with the relationship and wanted to end it. Yet, I kept waiting for her to dump the guy and get it over with but no this was dragged out until the end. She also had this flirty thing going with Police Detective Kyle Edwards, who in disposition was very similar to Mr. Big (or John James Preston). From the moment Detective Edwards showed up it was easy to see that he would eventually become her love interest.

This should have been a Did Not Finish but I kept reading because I wanted to see if my suspicions about the murderer was correct. There wasn't much of a mystery in this book and what was there was very predictable and easy to figure out.

Since this was not a good read for me, I will not be continuing on with this series.
