Review:
In this fast moving sequel, Kelsey's worst nightmare comes true. Her notebook goes missing but it's not just any regular old notebook. No, it's her secret spy notebook, it's where she keeps all the secrets she found and uncovered about her family, friends, classmates, etc..
After accidentally taking it to school, she placed it in her locker following a mishap during lunch. But at the end of the school day, it was missing from her locker. Who could have stolen it? Maybe it's someone whose secret Kelsey knows?
In trying to solve this mystery Kelsey got help from her Curious Cat Spy Club friends Becca and Leo. But with both of them being very busy from Leo hanging out with his new friend Frankie and Becca with the Sparklers, Kelsey sometimes felt like she was alone.
Between trying to find her missing notebook, the trio found themselves trying to lift the spirits of a 130 years old Aldabra tortoise named Albert. When Albert's owner left town for work, he sent the tortoise to Becca's mother's animal sanctuary. However, the poor animal was very sad and they were having a difficult time trying to get him to eat. Kelsey also had another mystery to solve, she was trying to find out where her older brother Kyle kept disappearing to. She wanted to make sure her brother wasn't doing anything that would get him into trouble.
This third book was a little different from the previous ones since the mystery didn't revolve around pets or animals. But it was still just as fun and interesting as the other two books. This story dealt with quite a few issues such as friendship, loneliness, trust, forgiveness and dealing with change but I think it's things that middle grade readers can understand and most likely relate to.
The writing for this series continues to be good and I like that with each book, you find out more about these characters and that they get a chance to grow. There is so much that I enjoyed about this story and with the way it ended, I'm looking forward to reading the next book.
