I love watching the Jem and the Holograms animated series, I have the box set sitting on the shelf. It's not often you find a show that had as the theme song states "glamour and glitter, fashion and fame" but it also had action and adventure, music, romance and strong female characters with very distinct personalities. This truly was a girl power show in all it's 80s glam.
I have been wanting to do a Fashion Meets Comics for Jem and the Holograms for a while and I couldn't think of better way to start than with Jerrica Benton a.k.a. Jem. She was one busy woman. Not only was she the co-owner and CEO of Starlight Music but also the lead singer for Jem and the Holograms. And not to mention along with Kimber, Shana, Aja and Raya they all ran Starlight House where they took care of orphan girls. In regards to the children they got some much needed help from housemother Mrs. Bailey.
As busy as Jerrica is, one thing she's never without is her infamous star earrings. On the cartoon they were sparkly and red but also an amazing and unique accessory and not because they were the receptors for contacting the highly advanced computer Synergy.
When creating this post I decided to go with a different approach, I used the star shape as inspiration but of course still keeping the sparkle and shine. Although the red star earrings were awesome in the cartoon, I don't think they translate as well in real life without giving off the appearance of being part of a costume.
Below are five pairs of earrings that still have that glamour and glitter unfortunately minus the assistance of Synergy.
