Book Review: Good Morning, Superman

Book: Good Morning, Superman by Michael Dahl with illustrations by Omar Lozano

Source: Borrowed from Publisher/NetGalley for an honest review

Publication: Available now

Description:

Look, up in the sky! It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s the . . . SUN! When morning comes, a young boy must prepare for his day, faster than a speeding bullet. Follow along as he leaps tall buildings (jumps out of bed) in a single bound, dons his heroic uniform (his clothes), and faces his greatest weakness (Kryptonite-colored toothpaste). Then it’s up, up, and away to daycare!

The perfect companion to the bestselling author Michael Dahl's BEDTIME FOR BATMAN, this official DC Comics picture book will have Superman fans young and old delighting in their morning routines. Includes a morning routine checklist.

Rating: 5 stars

Review:

Good Morning, Superman is an adorable and colorful story. It explores a little boy's morning as he gets ready for the day while it simultaneously shows Clark Kent transforming into Superman to stop a Lex Luthor controlled robot.

Going about his morning routine, the little boy tackled getting dressed, eating breakfast but his most daunting task was going up against the mighty toothbrush and paste. But with a little courage he was able to go in there and brush his teeth.

In trying to defeat the robot even Superman needed a little help from Supergirl and Kryto the Superdog which mirrors the little boy getting help from his younger sister and their dog in gathering his items.

I think this is a wonderful follow up to Bedtime for Batman, because sometimes getting ready in the morning can be a difficult task even more so for kids. However, Good Morning, Superman, shows kids that they can tackle any morning challenge on their own or with a little help. I like that the book even includes a checklist at the end.

This is a delightful book and I love the artwork. All the Superman parts are drawn similar to Superman: The Animated Series. I really like that Supergirl and the little boy's sister were included but I do hope that if there is a next book it will feature a female superhero and a little girl preparing for the day.

All that aside these are good books and they help kids see in a fun and super heroic way that they can accomplish their daily tasks.
