Fandom Friday: Stiles Stilinski's Story of Saving Derek Hale In the "Teen Wolf" Series Finale

Can we discuss Stiles Stilinski telling his side of the FBI raid story during the series finale of Teen Wolf? I know it's probably been discussed plenty of times but I had re-watched "The Wolves of War" episode the other day and since this scene was still on my mind, I figured why not post something for Fandom Friday.

In Stiles' side of the story or should it really be categorized as a fantasy (more on that later), he was telling Scott, Lydia and Malia how as an intern he convinced his instructors/agents to let him assist in searching for the "bizarrely feral, UNSUB" (well at least the FBI didn't know Derek Hale's name).

That was interesting simply for the fact that he was an intern who somehow talked his way into an investigation but what followed next was even more intriguing. Because in Stiles' story (or should I say fantasy), he not only painted himself as being the hero who rescued Derek (who by the way was falsely accused of mass murder) but in his version of the story he had Derek as a Damsel-in-Distress clinging to Stiles as if he was holding on for dear life. It's one thing for Stiles to tell his friends how he went into an FBI raid to save Derek but this was the story that he decided to tell.

Stiles made a point of stressing that he was a hero and that Derek's survival was due to him. This entire scene felt like something out a romance novel or a fairy tale with the knight in shining armor (or in Stiles' case bullet proof FBI vest) saving the damsel. But as it turned out, Stiles' story wasn't so truthful because in Derek's side of the story he described how he was the one who ended up having to save Stiles.

So it makes me wonder, why did Stiles not only lie that he saved Derek but made it appear as if Derek was a Damsel-in-Distress? There was really no point in lying about the rescue especially since he was telling the story to his friends. Aside from the lying, why was Derek painted as a damsel in need of rescuing. Is this the fantasy that Stiles has of Derek that this big strong werewolf is the damsel to his brave hero.

Since the beginning of the series, Stiles and Derek always had this interesting sort of chemistry which immediately had fans shipping these two characters and with the show including scenes like this, it's easy to theorize that they had potential to be more than friends. Especially if Stiles is imagining Derek as a Damsel-in-Distress.
