Comic Book Wednesday: July 11th Picks

I'm on the fence about continuing with reading the Superman books with the direction Brian Michael Bendis is choosing to take for Lois and Clark and their son Jon. I have Superman #1 on my list but I will decide when I get to the comic book store if I want to buy it or not.

Some other new books I have on my list: Xena: Warrior Princess #6 and X-23 #1. Okay, Xena is not technically new but it did go from a 5-issue miniseries to an ongoing series. I guess there must have been a lot of fan interest for that to happen. But X-23 is a new series, since Laura is no longer Wolverine, it will be interesting to see what's in store for her now. I'm looking forward to reading this first issue.

Well, here's my list:

DC Comics

Detective Comics #984 (Brooks Variant)

Book: Detective Comics #984

Description:

Batman called Black Lightning to Gotham City for help with a specific case-but what is Batman hiding from Jefferson Pierce? It looks like he's in touch with somebody from their mutual past, and he doesn't want Black Lightning to know about it -and that operative might be in over their head!

Scooby Apocalypse #27

Book: Scooby Apocalypse #27

Description:

With their headquarters under siege and overrun with monsters, the Scooby gang has to split up and seek shelter in the city. But when they realize that other plague-survivors are still trapped in the mall, the gang must decide whether to mount a rescue operation-or abandon their friends.

Superman #1

Book: Superman #1

Description:

The fallout from the Man of Steel miniseries has Clark Kent looking at the world through new eyes... with new ideas about what Superman could and should do for the city of Metropolis and the planet Earth. His first job? Getting the planet back out of the Phantom Zone!

Wonder Woman #50

Book: Wonder Woman #50

Description:

A new pantheon of gods has been born! But who are they? Where did they come from? What do they want? All questions for Wonder Woman, because she played more of a role in their arrival than you'd think! Will it fall to Diana to end their existence as well? Meanwhile, Wonder Woman's brother Jason learns his true purpose. It's all here in this extra-sized anniversary issue!

Dynamite Entertainment

Xena #6 (of 5) (Cover B - Cifuentes)

Book: Xena: Warrior Princess #6

Description:

The start of a new adventure! A young girl flees for her life-from her parents?! Xena and Gabrielle must determine if the girl is a visionary or a demon. Unfortunately for all concerned, the Oracles of Delphi have already decided!

Image Comics

Rat Queens #10 (Cover A - Gieni)

Book: Rat Queens #10

Description:

'THE COLOSSAL MAGIC NOTHING,' Part Five

With all of her friends gone, Betty must confront the reality wizard alone. The past, present, and future collide in a magic maelstrom, and in the battered ruins, a shocking truth is uncovered!

Marvel Comics

Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #34

Book: The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #34

Description:

Squirrel Girl and Kraven have had a nice day out as civilians, instead of their usual costumed identities! It was really straightforward and uneventful...

...is what we'd be saying if this was a way more boring comic, WHICH IT ISN'T! Instead we can say that Squirrel Girl and Kraven battled Mojo's evil clone and saved the city from his deadly machinations. Then they all got arrested!

When Doreen Green and Sergei Kravenoff end up BEHIND BARS, can they be saved? Will they even make it to trial? And who will be their lawyer?

We can answer that last one: It's obviously going to be none other than JENNIFER WALTERS, the incredible SHE-HULK!

Doreen behind bars! Kraven on the stand! And a conclusion to the trial that nobody will see coming! It's all this and more in this particular Marvel comic!

X-23 #1

Book: X-23 #1

Description:

Cloned from a warrior, raised as a killer, Laura Kinney has gone through hell and come out the other side a hero. After a stint as the All-New Wolverine, she returns to her roots as X-23 to make sure no one ever has to go through the horrors she did. With her sister Gabby and their pet Jonathan in tow, X-23 forges her own destiny in this new series by Mariko Tamaki and Juann Cabal.
