Comic Book Wednesday: July 21st Picks

I love going to my favorite comic book store but there are times I wish I could order my books online from the store. I love going to the store and looking around and talking to the owner but it's just a few times when I don't have the time to go the store that I wish I could get my books in the mail while also supporting my local comic book store. And since that's not an option, I really wish it was, I'll go to the comic book store and pick up my books.

A question for my fellow comic book fans, does your favorite comic book store have online ordering? If not, do you wish it did?

DC Comics

Book: Catwoman #33

Description:

Selina has worked hard to establish herself as the queen of Alleytown. But in response to Catwoman saving Poison Ivy from extermination at the hands of Saint Industries, Simon Saint has sent in the early stages of a totalitarian force that has left her kingdom shuttered. Catwoman has seen a man take his own life to avoid the consequences of crossing Saint Industries, so she knows there is no telling what they have in store for her and her gang of strays. And to make matters worse, Alleytown’s eerily quiet and empty streets now set the stage for the long-awaited confrontation between Catwoman and Father Valley!

Comic Book Wednesday: April 28th Picks

When do you read your new weekly comics?

A) As soon as you get them.
B) You carve a specific time to read them.
C) You read them whenever you find the time.

I used to be A then I moved to B and now I'm currently at C. My weekly comics have piled up because I was so busy but now that I got my time more organized, I'm slowly moving back up to B. I may never have as much free time as I once did to read my comics as soon as I got them. But I love reading my comics so I decided to make sure I had time for it.

Well here's my list for the week:

DC Comics

Book: Batman/Superman #17

Description:

In a world where Superman’s rocket never reached Earth, the Dark Knight and his sidekick discover a startling rift between dimensions. On the other side? A world where Martha Wayne survived, and Bruce never grew up to be Batman! Not only that, but a strange alien has emerged from the rift who’s faster than a locomotive and can leap tall buildings in a single bound...the Superman of Metropolis! When these worlds collide, the architects of this alternate history are revealed, and the only ones who can thwart their deadly experiments are the Batman and Superman of Earth-0! It’s a dynamic dual-world adventure!

Comic Book Wednesday: April 14th Picks

I think comic books are an interesting and unique art because aside from children picture books where else can you get story centered around art. I love seeing all the new stories and characters that continue to attract new and old readers. Which is why I love reading comics, you never know what you'll get.

As for books on my list, there's a new miniseries (Batman: The Detective) and final issue to a series (Dejah Thoris) along with a few other books. So, what new books are on your list this week?

Comic Book Wednesday: March 24th Picks

Why do you love reading comic books? I love reading comics because I get to see my favorite characters written in so many different stories. However, the downside is some of the stories are not always well written or have good art. But that's the chance you take when you start reading comics.

As for the comics I have this week, it's just six of my regular books. So what comics are you picking up today?

DC Comics

Comic Book Wednesday: February 10th Picks

Happy Comic Book Wednesday!

Yeah, I'm posting my list a little late but it's still Comic Book Wednesday. And I want to know what books you're getting or have already got today. Surprisingly, I have four books on my list which includes a Valentine's Day book: DC Love Is A Battlefield. The Archie & Friends: Guide to Dating may not be a holiday book but it does focus on romance. And odds are with these characters, there are no really good dating advice you can gain from them.

Well, here's my list, let know what books you're getting.

Archie Comics

Book: Archie & Friends: Guide to Dating #1

Description:

Want to learn how to successfully date from the best? Well, maybe successful isn’t the best word… but if you want to learn both the “Do’s” AND “Don’ts” of dating, then you’ve just struck gold!

Comic Book Wednesday: December 16th Picks

I know this is the latest I've ever posted my list for Comic Book Wednesday but I still wanted to post it. I love comics, as with any story, I've found some really amazing stories and characters. However, I've also read some awful stories and found poorly written characters as well.

I guess that's the fun part of picking up a book, you don't know what you'll find. So although I'm rather late posting this, here is my list. Let me know what books you picked up today.

DC Comics

Book: Aquaman #66

Description:

“Endless Winter” chapter four! The icy tendrils of Frost King’s global grip extend all the way to the bottom of the Seven Seas! Can Arthur and Mera convince a ferocious collective of Fire Trolls to emerge from the Earth’s very core to save Atlantis from its frozen imprisonment? And in our look to the past, the unlikely team of heroes gets more than they bargained for when they face off against the Frost King for the very first time!

Comic Book Wednesday: March 11th Picks

Happy Comic Book Wednesday!

Lately, I've been thinking of rewatching the DC Comics Extended Universe (DCEU) movies. It's only seven movies (eight if you include Birds of Prey but that's still in theatres), so a rewatch would only take a week or two. I'm not sure if I should start the rewatch during or after my Harrison Ford Filmography Challenge. Which I am still doing and the next movie I'll watch is Blade Runner. Over the years, I've heard so much about this movie, I really can't believe I've never seen it. Well, I will soon.

Anyway, on to the books. There's only two new ones on my list: Betty & Veronica: Friends Forever and Marvel Tales featuring Silver Surfer and the rest are my usual group of books. So, what new books are you picking up this week?

Archie Comics

Book: Betty & Veronica: Friends Forever: It's All Relative #1

Description:

Get to know the siblings and relatives of Betty, Veronica and other notable figures in Riverdale! Meet Veronica’s mischievous cousin Leroy, Smithers’ debonair nephew Liam, Mr. Weatherbee’s charming niece Wendy and Betty’s cunning cousin Jessica! It’s a full-on family affair!

Comic Book Wednesday: February 12th Picks

Happy Comic Book Wednesday!

Birds of Prey and Harley Quinn are having a really good moment and as a comic book fan it makes me happy to see so many people excited about the Birds of Prey movie. It would be so cool if the movie brought in new readers.

Someone over at DC Comics must has thought the same thing since there is a special Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey comic out. I have two more on my list: Batman: Pennyworth: R.I.P. and Marvel Tales featuring Wolverine. The rest are my usual group of books.

What books are you picking up today?

Boom! Studios

Book: Go Go Power Rangers #29

Meanwhile, Zack, Trini, and Jason are given their first mission as OMEGA RANGERS, and must trust that their friends will be able to handle all of Lord Zedd's threats without them.

Comic Book Wednesday: January 22nd Picks

This is probably the latest I've ever posted my Comic Book Wednesday but late is still better than never. I'm not going to make it to the comic book store today but I'll pick up my books sometime this week.

Is there a comic book series that you haven't read but want to? For me, it's the current Fantastic Four series that's written by Dan Slott. I've some really good things about this series and I really want to read it. I love the Fantastic Four, they always have such interesting sci-fi stories.

I don't have anything new on my list today but there is a special 750th issue of Wonder Woman out today. It's definitely something you might want to pick up if you're a Wonder Woman fan.

Archie Comics

Book: Vampironica: New Blood #2

Description:

BRAND NEW SERIES! Veronica digs deeper into her family’s vampire history, uncovering a shocking revelation. Meanwhile, Archie and Betty have a dangerous encounter with Fangs–one they barely escape!

Comic Book Wednesday: December 11th Picks

I'm so happy that readers are enjoying the Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy miniseries but I wonder when will DC Comics finally give Ivy an ongoing series? I'm sure at some point, it will happen because Ivy has a lot of fans who such as myself keep asking for a comic book series. We're just left wondering when?

Anyway, what books are you picking up this week? I have my usual group of books along with the first issue of Dejah Thoris. Well, here's my list:

Comic Book News #17: Tom Welling, Phil LaMarr, Deja Thoris and James Bond

It's been a while since I've posted a Comic Book News post but I'm going to make sure I do that more especially since there is some really good news constantly being released.

DC Comics

- Tom Welling will reprise his role as Clark Kent/Superman from the Smallville TV series for the upcoming CW Arrowverse crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths. Many fans, myself included were excited for this news but we are also hoping that Erica Durance will be reprising her role as Lois Lane as well.

From Page to Screen: A Dog's Journey, The Sun is Also a Star and John Wick vol #1

I love watching movies and TV shows but I feel like with so many based on books, the original source material is often forgotten or hardly promoted. Which is why I'm starting this new post Books to Film and TV as a way to focus on or promote the books that have inspired or are tied-in to the movies and TV shows.

This weekend there are three new movies that are either based on a book or is a media tie-in: A Dog's Journey, The Sun is Also a Star and John Wick.

Movies Based on a Book

Comic Book Wednesday: December 12th Picks

With Christmas quickly approaching, don't forget to check out your local comic book store for gifts. Depending on the store, you can find an assortment of books, collectibles, games, apparel and so much more. Having problems still trying to figure out gifts, you could ask someone who works there if they have any suggestions.

As for today's Comic Book Wednesday, I have four new books on my list: DC Comics New Talent Showcase 2018, Red Sonja Holiday Special, Fantastic Four Wedding Special and Miles Morales: Spider-Man.

What new books are you getting this week?

Comic Book Wednesday: November 21st Picks

It's the day before Thanksgiving and I'm sure the comic book industry is thankful for fans continuing to buy books. However, there are times when it feels like fans are not really appreciated especially when many publishers continue to raise the prices on some books while continuing to release the same old mediocre stories while also keeping bad writers on books instead of giving new ones a chance. That's not being very appreciative of fans now is it.

With that said, I don't have any new books on this week's list but I am interested in reading Teen Titans Go! and Shuri. So what books are you picking up this week?

Archie Comics

Jughead the Hunger #10 (Cover A - Gorham)

Book: Jughead: The Hunger #10

Description:

Who-or what-is behind the creation of FrankenMoose? Whatever it is, it may pose the greatest threat to Jughead Jones yet-- and considering this is a guy who's fought bloodthirsty werewolves and armed to the teeth werewolf hunters, that's saying something!

Comic Book Wednesday: October 17th Picks

Okay, who has the new Shuri series on their list? I love that superhero TV shows and movies have piqued non-comic book fans interest in characters which at times resulted in some of those characters getting their own comic series or miniseries.

Other than that, here is my list:

DC Comics

Aquaman #41

Book: Aquaman #41

Description:

From the pages of JUSTICE LEAGUE, the road to 'Drowned Earth' starts here! Aquaman is missing-and the world has gone to hell! With Arthur imprisoned by Black Manta, Queen Mera is left to deal with the arrival of an alien armada aiming to punish the Earth for the sins of Atlantis. As the cosmic tides begin to rise, Mera finds herself in a fight for her very life when the flood unleashes new horrors of the deep!

Comic Book Wednesday: September 26th Picks

A little late start to the morning but Happy Comic Book Wednesday! I love reading comic books and even though I mainly read superhero comics I like reading other genres as well. I was wondering what new books everyone was picking up this week?

Out of my usual group of books, I have two new miniseries on my list: Faith: Dreamside and Stranger Things.

Anyway, here's my list:

Archie Comics

Wednesday, September 19, 2018

Comic Book Wednesday: September 19th Picks

It's Comic Book Wednesday but seriously everyday is comic book day around here.

I still can't get over that trailer for Captain Marvel? How many times have you watched it? So far I've seen it twice and I've notice quite a few things such as Captain Marvel's helmet. I love seeing little comic book touches added to movies.

As for my list, I can't believe John Wick #3 is actually going to be available today. It's been delayed for so long I was thinking the miniseries was cancelled. So here's hoping it's actually on the shelves today.

Boom! Studios

Go Go Power Rangers Back to School #1 Main

Book: Go Go Power Rangers: Back to School #1

It's Spring Break for the Rangers, and the first time since they received their Power Coins that the Rangers will be apart. As they each embark on their own week-long vacation, these teenagers with attitude discover that being a hero doesn't always mean having to morph!

Wednesday, August 8, 2018

Comic Book Wednesday: August 8th Picks

One good thing that resulted from the Batman/Catwoman wedding fiasco and that's Catwoman having her own series again. I always found Catwoman interesting especially when writers show that when she's not stealing things shouldn't be she's trying to help the people that are most often over looked in her part of town. I've said before that Catwoman is not necessarily a hero but she's most definitely not a villain.

There is also new series starting today but it's not on my list (I'm going to pick it up in the trade edition), it's the Fantastic Four. It's been some time since they had a series and I'm sure fans are going to be grabbing that one up.

Other than that, here's my list:

DC Comics

Book: Catwoman #2

Description:

Gotham’s a toxic litter box for Selina Kyle of late, so she hits the road looking to clear the air, change her look and clear her name, too—there’s a copycat burglar swiping her M.O. who needs sorting out. In her hometown, Catwoman runs afoul of a crime boss who’s also hunting this impostor. Can the two declare a truce to hunt a mutual enemy, or will Selina end up just more roadkill?

Comic Book Wednesday: July 18th Picks

It's Comic Book Wednesday, what books are you picking up?

When you go to the comic book store do you just pick up your books or do you look around seeing if there is something else that might interest you? I try to look around because on occasion I have found some really cool things especially a lot of older books.

As for what's new, here are some of the new books that are on my list: Archie meets Batman '66 (miniseries), The X-Files Case Files: Hoot Goes There? (miniseries), Rat Queens Special and Marvel Super Hero Adventures: Ms. Marvel and the Teleporting Dog.

Okay, let me know if you guys find anything interesting at the comic book store.
