Comic Book Wednesday: September 12th Picks

I love reading comic books, it's the characters, the stories and the artwork that all come together to create something rather unique. However, I do have one pet peeve in regards to writing, is when a writer doesn't know or understand the characters they are writing for resulting in the characters feeling out of character. It just seems like lazy writing where it doesn't appear they have done any research about the characters and instead decide to rewrite them to fit their vision.

I think there are some really amazing comic books out there and that there is something for everyone. From action adventure to comedy, if it's something in particular you are looking for, I'm sure you will be able to find it. And if you need a little help trying to figure out what you might like, ask someone working at your local comic book store.

With that said, here's my list. I have nothing new, just a group of my regulars. What books are you guys picking up?

DC Comics

Catwoman #3

Book: Catwoman #3

Description:

The secret shot-caller who's been borrowing Catwoman's M.O. for a series of crimes steps out of the shadows in this issue, and her 'secret origin' is unlike anything Selina's run into before! With nowhere to go and no one to turn to, Catwoman's running out of her nine lives fast!

Detective Comics #988 (Brooks Variant)

Book: Detective Comics #988

Description:

Kicking off an arc guest-written by James Robinson (writer of the Batman classics 'Blades' and 'Face the Face') with art by rising star Stephen Segovia! Scooby Apocalypse #29

Book: Scooby Apocalypse #29

Description:

A new creature commander emerges from the shadows and it only wants one thing, the ultimate monster-killer herself-Daphne! Even with Scrappy-Doo, the gang is no match for this rabid monster madness. Worst of all, Daphne seems to have lost the will to live. Is one person worth the price of survival of the human race?

Wonder Woman #54

Book: Wonder Woman #54

Description:

Diana's model U.N. project goes up in flames when she tries to intervene and stop the exiled Bana-Mighdall Amazons from invading the nation of Qurac under false pretenses. She clashes with Artemis, who wants her exiled sisters to go to war, despite the fact that the expat Amazons are being manipulated...by none other than the deadly Rustam, Quraci seditionist and rebel leader! Now it's up to Wonder Woman to lasso this runaway war train before it can get up to speed-and it's about to pull out of the station.

Image Comics

Marvel Comics

Marvel Rising Omega #1

Book: Marvel Rising Omega #1

It's now or never: The heroes must rise.

Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #36

Book: The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #36

Description:

Comics have been famously described as 'pictorial and other images in deliberate sequence,' but do you need words, too? Perhaps so, but also...PERHAPS NOT??

In this special, standalone, ALL-SILENT ISSUE of the UNBEATABLE SQUIRREL GIRL, she and Iron Man face off against a villain neither has seen before - who will render them quite literally speechless!

It's an action-packed adventure that anyone can read, filled with surprises, excitement, action and - for once - NO WORDS!

This is what Ryan gets for jamming so many words into previous issues.
