Review:

I really enjoyed reading this second volume of Goldie Vance. The mystery in this story centers around a teenage girl who was dressed in a full astronaut suit found lying face down in the sand. Marigold "Goldie" Vance and her best friend Cheryl Lebeaux had found the girl while they were jogging on the beach.

Goldie wanted to find out who the girl was since the girl woke up in the hospital not being able to remember anything. And Goldie's investigation also had her trying to sort things out with Cheryl after the best friends had a fight after a misunderstanding involving NASA representatives along with a bit of disregard from Goldie.

At first Goldie thought Cheryl had overreacted and didn't think anything else about their fight while she was back at her job as a valet at the Crossed Palms Resort. But talking to hotel's in-house Detective Walter Tooey to see if he had any clues (he didn't) about the girl who was found on the beach, made her realize she would have to talk to Cheryl since she said the girl looked familiar to her.

However, Goldie's opinion of the fight didn't change until her girlfriend Diane suggested seeing it from Cheryl's point of view. She returned to the hospital to not only look for Cheryl (to apologize) but also to check on the girl. However, she got a big surprise when she saw Cheryl and the girl driving away.

This just made the mystery even more intriguing and after talking to Cheryl's boyfriend Rob, Goldie started to realize there were areas of Cheryl's life that she had no knowledge of. Another clue from Walt had him and Goldie uncovering another aspect of Cheryl's life and with some fashion and beauty help from Diane the trio were led to the identity of the girl, whose name is Millie.

The mystery starts to deepen when they speak to Millie's mother and find more clues in Millie's bedroom. However, Goldie's mother may have provided the clue that may lead Goldie to locating Cheryl and Millie. As well as finding out the answers to why Millie was found on the beach and why she had been wearing an astronaut suit.

This humorous and engaging well-written and illustrated group of issues had Goldie and Walt trying to solve a mystery that at first seemed impossible because clues kept leading to more questions that they needed to find answers to. But what I like is that Goldie was determined to solve this baffling case. Although she's not an official detective, she's very good at solving mysteries.

I also really like that with each volume, you get to learn a little something more about these characters. Goldie is a very exuberant and impulsive character and she sometimes does and says things without thinking it through. But her heart is generally in the right place.

Goldie Vance continues to be a fun and interesting series and I can't wait to read the third and fourth volumes.
