Entertainment News #11: Nancy Drew Cancelled, Superman & Lois, Percy Jackson and more

For anyone new to Book Girl, for this post, I like to highlight various entertainment news from books to movies and shows.

- According to reports, the Nancy Drew TV series on The CW has been cancelled, the upcoming fourth season will be the final one. Although it deviated from the books by adding a supernatural element to the show along with changing various things about the characters, it quickly found a fan base. The premiere date for the fourth season hasn't been announced yet but it's been stated that the show will air sometime next year.

- Continuing with The CW news, the DC Comics TV series Superman & Lois won Best Science Fiction Television Series at the Saturn Awards, which the ceremony is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Congratulations because Superman & Lois is a good show and I'm really looking forward to watching the upcoming third season.

- The TV series Girls5eva has been moved from the Peacock streaming service over to Netflix for the third season. The series is about a one-hit-wonder band from the '90s that's trying to get a second shot at fame. So far there has been no release date for the third season.

- Author Rick Riordan will release a new Percy Jackson book Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods in September 2023. The story will focus on Percy getting ready to go to college. According to Riordan, to get into New Rome University, you need recommendation letters from the gods, and they don’t give those out for free. So Percy has to do quests—not to save the world this time, but just to get into college.

In the upcoming book, Percy and his friends, Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood must assist Ganymede, Zeus’s cupbearer, in retrieving the missing Chalice, a magical artifact capable of granting immortality to those who drink from it. As of now the book is a standalone story but according to the author, Future adventures aren’t out of the question, he said, but that remains to be seen depending on the reception of this one, and whatever ideas might emerge.

Percy Jackson isn't the only book Riordan is releasing next year, he is co-writing The Sun and the Star with author Mark Oshiro. The story will focus on Nico di Angelo, the demigod son of Hades and Nico's boyfriend Will Solace, the demigod son of Apollo as they journey into the Underworld to save an old friend.

- The Amazon Prime action comedy movie Heads of State which will star Idris Elba and John Cena had announced that Ilya Naishuller will be the director. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is being described as Air Force One meets Midnight Run and will center on the mismatched duo who are in over their heads in a high-stakes situation.

- The title for Prince Harry's upcoming memoir is Spare and it will be released on January 10, 2023. So far very little information has been released about the memoir but it will be released worldwide in 16 languages, with an unabridged audio edition and print edition.
