Entertainment News: Gotham Knights TV Series Cancelled

I guess you can add Gotham Knights to the cancelled shows list. It's being reported that although The CW renewed Superman & Lois for a fourth yet shortened season. Unfortunately, Gotham Knights didn't make the cut and will end the first season with the last two episodes that will air Tuesdays, June 20th and 27th.

I've been watching the 3rd season of Superman & Lois and the show continues to be a good series despite my continued annoyance with Lana Lang and her family. However, I never got around to watching Gotham Knights, but I'm not surprised it was cancelled. The premise never really caught my interest with Bruce Wayne being murdered and his adopted son Tyler Hayes (some randomly created original character for the show) formed an unlikely team with Carrie Kelly along with the children of Batman’s enemies: Duela Dent, Stephanie Brown, Harper Row and her brother Cullen when they are all framed for killing Bruce Wayne.

To center a show around Harvey Dent/Two-Face and random either originally created characters or lesser known characters (although Stephanie Brown is one of my favorite characters) didn't seem like a good move. Especially with killing off fan favorite Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Surprisingly the random concept worked for the Gotham TV series that ran for five seasons on FOX. Because it had an interesting take that centered around a young Bruce Wayne and other random characters and the constant chaos in Gotham. However, the random concept didn't work for the short lived Birds of Prey TV series that only stayed on for one season on The WB. The show centered around a small group of heroes (Helena Kyle/Huntress, Barbara Gordon/Oracle and Dinah Redmond (Lance)) trying to protect Gotham after Bruce Wayne/Batman mysteriously left the city. It was a poorly written and executed show that didn't know what to do with either the characters or the story.

Maybe I'll get around to watching Gotham Knights and maybe it's better than the premise but the premise should have been something interesting centered around a better group of characters.
