Entertainment News: Gotham Knights TV Series Cancelled

I guess you can add Gotham Knights to the cancelled shows list. It's being reported that although The CW renewed Superman & Lois for a fourth yet shortened season. Unfortunately, Gotham Knights didn't make the cut and will end the first season with the last two episodes that will air Tuesdays, June 20th and 27th.

I've been watching the 3rd season of Superman & Lois and the show continues to be a good series despite my continued annoyance with Lana Lang and her family. However, I never got around to watching Gotham Knights, but I'm not surprised it was cancelled. The premise never really caught my interest with Bruce Wayne being murdered and his adopted son Tyler Hayes (some randomly created original character for the show) formed an unlikely team with Carrie Kelly along with the children of Batman’s enemies: Duela Dent, Stephanie Brown, Harper Row and her brother Cullen when they are all framed for killing Bruce Wayne.

To center a show around Harvey Dent/Two-Face and random either originally created characters or lesser known characters (although Stephanie Brown is one of my favorite characters) didn't seem like a good move. Especially with killing off fan favorite Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Surprisingly the random concept worked for the Gotham TV series that ran for five seasons on FOX. Because it had an interesting take that centered around a young Bruce Wayne and other random characters and the constant chaos in Gotham. However, the random concept didn't work for the short lived Birds of Prey TV series that only stayed on for one season on The WB. The show centered around a small group of heroes (Helena Kyle/Huntress, Barbara Gordon/Oracle and Dinah Redmond (Lance)) trying to protect Gotham after Bruce Wayne/Batman mysteriously left the city. It was a poorly written and executed show that didn't know what to do with either the characters or the story.

Maybe I'll get around to watching Gotham Knights and maybe it's better than the premise but the premise should have been something interesting centered around a better group of characters.

Fandom Friday: Random Fandom Thoughts #8

Happy Friday, what fandom thoughts are on your mind?

- I remember when I first started watching Prodigal Son, I immediately thought the show would have fit perfectly within the Gotham TV series universe. They both have this dark and twisted elements along with this crazy type of energy and not to mention the characters. It's still disappointing that Prodigal Son was cancelled after two seasons but I'm happy that the show was created because it's one of my favorite shows (and Gotham as well).

Happy Election Day!

This feels like one of the biggest elections, I've ever experienced. I really hope everyone either voted early or will vote today because this election is too important to not participate in.

In honor of the day, I created a list of TV shows and movies that either center on an election or politics is at it's core such as the Star Wars Prequel trilogy (which is on the list). If you're looking for more shows and movies to watch, you can also check out my list from 2016.

Video: Catwoman Stealing a Diamond in the Gotham Series Finale

Last Thursday the series finale of Gotham aired, I think the show ended just as wonderfully campy and zany as it started. I don't know if Lili Simmons is getting enough praise for her portrayal as the adult version of Selina Kyle but she definitely deserves it. I feel like her performance honored the role that Camren Bicondova portrayed for five seasons while giving viewers a slightly hardened Selina who has become the ultimate thief. However, I do wish her costume had the Catwoman cowl to complete the look.

Anyway, here's a fun clip of Catwoman showing off her impeccable skills.

The Gotham Series Finale Airs Tonight (Don't Miss It)

I can't believe it, the final episode of Gotham is on tonight. It's been five years and this show has been a crazy, zany, chaotic mess and I loved every minute of it. Love it or hate it, Gotham took an interesting take on the Batman universe that embraced the craziness that is Gotham city.

Since this last episode is set 10 years in the future, Camren Bicondova, who has played Selina Kyle from the very beginning, has stepped aside to allow another actress Lilli Simmons to portray an older Selina. Camren wrote a heartfelt note (you can read it on her Twitter account) describing her decision for not being in the final episode. Although, it's a little disappointing not to see Camren complete her role in the final episode, I think Lilli will do an awesome job with the character.

Are you going to watch the final episode of Gotham tonight?

Poison Ivy Week: Peyton List was Perfectly Cast as Poison Ivy on Gotham

Although, I liked Maggie Geha's portrayal of Ivy Pepper/Poison Ivy during the 3rd season of Gotham, it always felt like something was missing. So when Ivy was recast with Peyton List (seen below) taking over the role, this new portrayal brought a more self-assured, deadly and ruthless quality to the character.

After being reborn for the second time, Ivy was more confident and had a clear sense of focus in her role as the protector of plants. Poison Ivy used to be shown as deadly but I think in an attempt to show a more heroic side to her, lately in most takes (from comics books to animated shows and movies) it seems as though she has been de-thorned. So it was nice seeing the classic old school villain take on Ivy during the 4th and 5th seasons of Gotham.

If you watch Gotham what did you think of Peyton List's performance of Ivy Pepper/Poison Ivy?

Quote: Selina Kyle (Gotham)

"A girl's gotta shop."

~ Selina Kyle, Gotham season 1 episode 8 "The Mask"

I don't advocate stealing but how could Selina even attempt to steal a bunch of stuff during the daytime and especially near a coffee shop which apparently has Gotham cops as customers. That's a total rookie move for the future notorious cat-burglar.

Geek Girl Thoughts: Gotham

I really like Gotham, it's my favorite DC Comics' TV shows (seconded by Teen Titans Go! on Cartoon Network) that's currently airing. I do like watching The CW's DC Comics shows but they can be at times a little boring and predictable which I found to be the opposite of Gotham because the chaos and madness and the extremely outrageous characters keep the stories and the show exciting.

With the upcoming final season airing soon on FOX (it returns January 3rd), I'm happy for the show to return but also a little sad that this underrated series is ending.

My Rewatch of "Gotham" Season 1 Made Me Realize Just How Wrong I Was About It

With Gotham ending with the upcoming fifth season, I decided to rewatch the series. I haven't rewatched the first season since it originally aired in 2014 but something I realized after rewatching the first four episodes is that the show wasn't as bad as I remembered. I can admit that I was wrong and that perhaps I was a bit too hard on the first season. It had all the things I enjoyed so much about seasons 2-4 (compelling and complex story coupled with the unexpected dramatic zaniness) but it was just not perfected yet.

That hint of darkness and instability with so many of the characters (Edward Nigma, Barbara Kean, etc.) was there but they were not at the point to completely embrace it yet. I also wasn't very fair to young Bruce Wayne and Alfred Pennyworth (both characters I since grew to love) because when I first watched the show I thought they were the weak links and thought perhaps they should have had limited scenes. Bruce's progression from scared kid to determined hero was there, he was studying cases and trying to learn as much as possible. He already knew what he was planning to do while Alfred was trying his best to get Bruce to remain a child as well as give him the guidance he was going to need for his future endeavor.

The only part of the show I didn't have fault with was Selina Kyle, she has been my favorite character from the moment she appeared on screen creeping out of the shadows and landing on her feet on a busy street.

As I continue with my Gotham rewatch the point I wanted to make was that your first opinion can sometimes be wrong but it's okay if it changes later on.

Gotham's Selina Kyle and Bruce Wayne (Video)

So, who else watches Gotham? One of the things I love about the show besides all the crazy mayhem are all the fun scenes between Selina and Bruce.

They started out as reluctant allies but have slowly grown into something more. And in this scene, I love how easily they flirt with each yet Selina has no problem calling Bruce out on being a jerk. And not to be overlooked, they do work so well fighting together, they really compliment each other perfectly.

Sofia Falcone (Gotham Season 4 Promo Picture)

I love this picture of Sofia Falcone (played by Crystal Reed), she's a perplexing character. I'm looking forward to seeing what she is really going to be up to in this fourth season of Gotham. She's probably going to bring as much trouble to Gotham city as all the other characters in the series.

I've noticed online that a lot of Teen Wolf fans are asking a lot of questions about Gotham and Reed's character Sofia. Many of them who are not fans of Batman or comics in general are wondering if they can jump in watching season 4 since Reed (who used to be on Teen Wolf as Allison Argent) joined the show. I hope they will watch the show because of the way it's written you don't need to have read the comics to follow along.

Gotham Season 4 Trailer

I love watching Gotham, although I thought the first season was dull and boring and not quite sure where it was going plot wise. However, the show improved drastically in season 2 and onward once they focused more on the craziness of Gotham city and the villains.

And if the trailer is anything to go by it looks like the fun and crazy madness continues in this 4th season. I can't wait until tonight, I will be watching this.

Gotham airs tonight at 8:00pm EST on FOX.

Caturday: Selina Kyle (Gotham)

My favorite thing about Gotham's Selina Kyle is she does whatever she wants but also looks out for others. She could have easily stuck to the shadows and cared only about herself but no, she willingly puts herself in danger trying to help others. She's not necessarily a hero but she's most definitely not a villain.

For anyone who doesn't know, Gotham will return for its 4th season on Thursday (9/21) at 8:00pm EST on FOX.

DVD Tuesday: Batman and Harley Quinn, Baywatch and Gotham Season 3

DVD Tuesday, feels more like Batman day since there is a new animated movie Batman and Harley Quinn and the release of the third season of Gotham out today.

I still remember the Batman: The Animated Series episode where Batman and Robin had to work with Harley Quinn to find the Joker. And it looks like in this movie they will be working with her again this time to find Poison Ivy. Should be fun and not doubt total madness.

The first season of Gotham may not have been the best, but thankfully it didn't get cancelled because seasons two and three totally made up for it.

Today is not all about Batman, because Baywatch is also out today. I can't wait to see this again, it didn't seem to do as well as the box office maybe viewers will give it a chance now that it's out on DVD/Blu-ray and digital.

Pride Month: Day #26: Barbara Kean and Tabitha Galavan (Gotham)

Barbara Kean and Tabitha Galavan's relationship was actually really good. However, it wasn't until the death (or should I say murder) of Butch, who was also in a relationship with Tabitha, that things went extremely downhill for the couple once Tabitha found out it was Babs who killed him.

Dysfunction at it finest, I would compare the end to something along the lines of Harley Quinn and the Joker. Which is not surprising since it's hinted that in Gotham's upcoming fourth season Barbara may become Harley Quinn. It will be interest to see how that will happen especially since she is supposedly dead (in a shocking twist murdered by Tabitha). But death is never really permanent for some in Gotham City.

I wonder if these two will gravitate towards each in some sort of capacity because like Harley and the Joker no one does dysfunctional romance like them or is this officially the end for these two?
