Toxic Fandom: Making fun of someone accidentally coming out is not funny

I debated posting this especially in the middle of the night but I just find it so disappointing that some fans are laughing because an actor may have accidentally outed himself. It was after he posted something in his Instagram stories. It's since been deleted but that's not stopping those fans from turning it into a joke. Despite times changing (although slowly in some aspects), there is still this stigma and stereotype applied in Hollywood to some actors who are not straight. And not to mention people in the LGBTQ+ community are still being targeted and treated horribly.

Maybe the actor never planned to come out. However, by accidentally posting something, it now has fans talking about his sexuality and making fun of him. I feel sorry for him because he should be able to decide when or if he wanted to come out. As well as not have his mistake be used as a joke.

You don't know how this accident could be affecting him and if there will be any fallout from it. Maybe he won't acknowledge it or maybe he will. But he shouldn't feel forced to. I don't know, as a fan, it's just disappointing to see so many fans gleefully making fun of someone. It should go without saying that making fun of someone's sexuality isn't a joke. I know that we all have our opinions but fans shouldn't feel happy and excited to make fun of someone accidentally outing themselves.

Being online shouldn't make you forget to be compassionate or understanding.
