Why did the writers rewrite Eddie Diaz's relationships in the sixth season?

Happy 9-1-1 Monday!

I have some thoughts about Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz and the sixth season of 9-1-1. This sixth season is still one of my least favorite seasons because it was so poorly written. One of the many things I didn't like was how the Showrunner and writers re-wrote Eddie's relationship with his late wife Shannon. They tried to change the perception of not only how their relationship was (Eddie and Shannon used to argue a lot and the love they had for each other was bare minimum). But also as a way to try to garner sympathy for Shannon who prior to dying had been shown as being a bad parent.

(9-1-1 season 6 episode 9: Red Flag)

The writers were trying to pretend as if the viewers hadn't already seen Eddie and Shannon's relationship during the second season and the flash back scenes from the third season episode Eddie Begins. They tried to rewrite their relationship to make it seem as if it has been this magical romance (it wasn't). All so that they could try to make it seem as if Eddie's new love interest, Marisol, the weird and random DIY lady he reconnected with at the end of the sixth season had the same "magic" he had with Shannon. Again, it's wasn't, simply because there was no magic between Eddie and Shannon nor Eddie and Marisol. However, at least Eddie and Shannon had chemistry despite their ill-fated and tumultuous relationship. It's weird that they wrote Eddie so out of character just to try to push him with the weird DIY lady he barely interacted with in her first appearance in the episode Home Invasion (season 6 episode 5). And to make it even weirder, Marisol's first appearance gave the impression that she had an incestuous vibe with her brother. I'm not looking forward to seeing Eddie even more out of character just to continue pushing this weird relationship.

Something else I didn't like about the sixth season was that the writers were erasing Vice Principal Dr. Ana Flores from Eddie's story. It seems like they were doing this to make it seem like the DIY lady will be the first person he's dated since Shannon died. When in fact that was Ana during the fourth and early part of the fifth season. Unfortunately, Eddie and Ana had no chemistry and he was forcing himself to date her because his son Christopher really liked her (which was probably due to her being Christopher's former English teacher). Eddie forcing himself to date Ana, also unfortunately led to him having panic attacks because he wasn't being honest with himself. And in the end, all this did was hurt him and Ana. It's disappointing that the writers made it seem as if Ana didn't exist with the way they were trying to push this narrative when Eddie was being forced to date yet again.

(9-1-1 season 4 episode 10: Parenthood)

The sixth season 14th episode Performance Anxiety felt like the perfect set up for Eddie to question his sexuality because he never seems to have any interest in women. And in the episode, his Tia Josephina "Pepa" set him up on a date with the daughter of one of her friends and Eddie was so panicky over it. That doesn't strike me as a guy who is attracted to women. And not to mention the conversation near the end of the episode he had with his tia truly seemed like he was on the verge of figuring out something about himself. I think a 30-something man figuring out his sexuality would make for a compelling storyline. I think it would answer so many questions for him. However, the Showrunner and writers are so set on pushing this tired and repetitive storyline of Eddie being forced to date once again instead of following through with the storyline they keep trying to avoid.
