Video: 9-1-1 season 8 mini promo

Although, 9-1-1 has moved to Thursdays, it's still 9-1-1 Mondays to me. Anyway, here's a fun little video featuring some of the cast (Bryan Safi, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Aisha Hinds and Tracie Thoms) giving a little reminder that the show will be back soon. The eighth season will premiere Thursday, September 26th at 8:00 PM EST on ABC.

This video is also a reminder to me that when I'm writing about Maddie Buckley to call her Maddie Han now.

Video: Buck and Eddie: Cowboy Like Me (9-1-1)

Happy Monday!

I still can't get over how the Showrunner and writers for 9-1-1 whether they want to admit it or not, have created such a beautiful and meaningful relationship between Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz and Evan "Buck" Buckley. It's so wonderful because not only does Buck love and care about Eddie but also Eddie's son Christopher. There is such a strong bond and connection between the three of them. It's unbelievable that the Showrunner and writers would rather pretend like they didn't create this amazing relationship and loving little family. And instead choose to put Buck and Eddie in relationships with random love interests. And then wonder why fans keep rooting for Buck and Eddie to finally get together.

As soon as I watched this amazingly well-made video by Killiarious Youtube, I had to post it. This video really highlights how special their relationship is. Again, whether the Showrunner and writers want to admit, they have created something really special between Buck and Eddie. From the longing looks to the endless trust they have for each other, it's a wonder how they are not together. They are each other's person and everything that each have been romantically searching for.

Buck: I mean, he's still scared out of his mind. He's not the only one.

Eddie: (crying) I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare him. Just kind of... lost it.

Buck: Why?

Eddie: I was supposed to...reach out to some of the people I served with. Part of my therapy.

Buck: Okay. I, uh, I-I didn't know you still kept in touch with any of them.

Eddie: Truth is I didn't. I haven't talked to any of them since I moved out here. I pulled four people out of that chopper alive. Chief died in country a couple years later. Rest of us made it home safe.

Buck: And, uh, wh-what happened to the others?

Eddie: Norwahl... died in a car crash. Binder OD'd, and Mills... shot herself last August. I pulled them out. But I didn't save them.

Buck: So, that's why you took a baseball bat to everything you own?

Eddie: I'm afraid.

Buck: Okay. Okay. Well, what are you afraid of?

Eddie: That I'm never gonna feel normal again.

Eddie was really going through a lot during the fifth season but it had all built up over a long period of time. And sooner or later, he was going to have to deal with it. Earlier in the episode, Eddie's therapist Dr. Frank (so far no last name given) asked Eddie "So, what are you afraid of?". Eddie didn't answer the question, instead his response to Frank was a question, "That's a pretty open-ended question, don't you think?" However, later in the episode when Buck asked Eddie the same question, he truthfully answered him. I love that Eddie was able to let his guard down and be vulnerable with Buck.

This scene reminded me of what Buck said to Eddie back in the third season 9th episode Fallout. He said "If you're not gonna be honest with Frank, at least be honest with me." And so far, that's continuing to be true.

I love that Hen and Karen caught Klowee. Not only did she break into their car and stole Karen's purse. But she altered her own driver's license so that she could use Hen's name to use one of Hen's credit cards. However, thanks to Hen and Karen, Klowee's crime spree was over and she got arrested.

Christmas Countdown Day #14: Athena, May and Harry Grant and Robert Nash (9-1-1)

It's 14 days until Christmas and I wanted to start a little countdown. In this scene from the 9-1-1 fifth season 10th episode Wrapped in Red, this was the start of the Grant/Nash family's plans for Christmas not quite working out how they would have liked. First Michael Grant and his fiancé Dr. David Hale were not going to be attending the family dinner/party because they were still in Haiti. David had volunteered for Doctors Without Borders and Michael as an architect planned to use his skills to help in rebuilding after the country had been hit with a devastating hurricane.

Second, May as a 9-1-1 dispatcher would be missing the event because she would be working during the holiday. And not to mention, Harry didn't seem to have the holiday gift giving spirit because all he wanted for Christmas was cash instead of a gift. And throughout the episode Athena and Bobby would get more cancellations from friends who weren't able to attend for various reasons. But by the end of the episode, there is a special celebration that has everyone embracing the spirit of the holiday.

Fashion Meets Fandom: May Grant

I found it interesting that in the 9-1-1 fifth season 15th episode FOMO the color pink was shown a lot. From the fake Luxury Influencer Selene (a.k.a. Rebecca) who wore two different pink outfits to the bridesmaids' dresses at the reality show wedding. From Henrietta "Hen" and Dr. Karen Wilson's pink pillow cases and the pink in Hen's t-shirt to the emergency of the mom and her three daughters (there was a smattering of shades of pink). Maybe I'll write more about all the pink in this episode another time but for this Fashion Meets Fandom I want to focus on May Grant's sweater.

Happy 9-1-1 Monday!

I just adore the Buckley-Han family. I still wish the tax storyline wasn't connected to Chimney and Maddie getting engaged. The showrunner and writers should had them get engaged before introducing the tax storyline. Then it wouldn't seem as if their engagement was due to some accountant suggesting they get married to avoid another issue with their taxes.

I'm happy they are engaged and that they will be getting married next season. I hope it will be a beautiful, romantic well-written event that doesn't happen in a montage scene. Which is what happened with Athena Grant and Robert "Bobby" Nash's wedding in the second season finale as well as with Henrietta "Hen" and Dr. Karen Wilson's vow renewal in the fifth season finale. So here's hoping it won't be repeated for Maddie and Chimney.

Why did the writers rewrite Eddie Diaz's relationships in the sixth season?

I have some thoughts about Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz and the sixth season of 9-1-1. This sixth season is still one of my least favorite seasons because it was so poorly written. One of the many things I didn't like was how the Showrunner and writers re-wrote Eddie's relationship with his late wife Shannon. They tried to change the perception of not only how their relationship was (Eddie and Shannon used to argue a lot and the love they had for each other was bare minimum). But also as a way to try to garner sympathy for Shannon who prior to dying had been shown as being a bad parent.

Athena: You guys still decorating those pumpkins? How many are you making? Oh, and why so many ghosts?

Bobby: Well, they're for Buck. I'm gonna put 'em all over the firehouse.

Bobby: Mm.

Harry: That'd be so cool if it did.

Bobby: Well, Buck certainly thinks so.

May: But ghosts aren't real.

Harry: Tommy Sheridan's family used to live in this apartment where this little old lady died, and he said the lights used to flicker when they used the tea kettle.

Athena: Didn't that building get red-tagged after the earthquake?

Bobby: Yeah.

Athena: Yeah. Sounds more like faulty wiring than signals from the other side.

May: Harry, over 100 billion people have lived on this planet. Pretty sure a little old lady has died everywhere. Probably even in this very house.

I really like this scene. It was such a cute little family moment with Harry and May helping Bobby carve and paint a bunch of pumpkins into ghosts in order to scare (or make fun of) Evan "Buck" Buckley. It's interesting that Buck is not the only one that seems to believe in ghost since Harry does as well. And who's to say that Harry's friend Tommy Sheridan's family's former apartment wasn't haunted? Just because Athena said that the apartment has been red-tagged doesn't mean it also can't still be haunted, right? I also like that May added a bit of spookiness in her response to her little brother Harry about the possibility of ghosts being in their own home.

I just adore the Buckley-Han family. I hope the Showrunner and writers will do a better job with Maddie and Chimney's relationship in the seventh season than they did in the sixth. Because during most of the sixth season their relationship seemed to be developing off screen. It wasn't until the last few episodes of the season did their relationship finally start to get more screen time. I'm really just hoping the writing in general will be good for the seventh season. Well, here's hoping.

9-1-1 Monday: Why are Evan Buckley and Edmundo Diaz not together?

This is my final post about the four main couples. Evan "Buck" Buckley and Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz (or Buddie as the ship is called) may not be canon, however, they are the most popular ship from the series. And for all intents and purposes, they are considered canon by so many fans and viewers. And it hasn't gone unnoticed that the writers use romantic tropes within the storylines for them. I think there is something so wonderful and special about their relationship that is so much more than just friendship. And it makes me wonder why are they not a couple?

Happy 9-1-1 Monday!

I will continue with my final couple Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz and Evan "Buck" Buckley next Monday. Although, they may not be canon, they are one of the most popular ships from the series. And no surprise considering Buck and Eddie have way more chemistry and better connection with each other. Especially compared to all the various romantic relationships they have been forced into with lackluster love interests throughout the series.

So until next Monday, here is this amazing artwork of Ravi Panikkar by Linda (SkyHighRollins). He is a fun little character that despite only being a recurring one, Ravi has quickly become one of my favorite characters. Hopefully, in the seventh season he'll get more screen time and have more than a one episode storyline.

9-1-1 Monday: Howard Han and Maddie Buckley

Before I begin my post for 9-1-1 Monday, I want to say how happy I am for the writers to have albeit a tentative agreement but an agreement nonetheless. And they are steps closer to finalizing their deal. I wish them continued success. I also wish that once everything is settled for the actors, that once 9-1-1 returns to production the show will get a new and much more competent, skilled and experienced Showrunner and better writers. Ever since Kristen Reidel took over as the main Showrunner for the fifth season (she was co-Showrunner during the fourth), 9-1-1 has suffered from her terrible ability to run the show.

I truly support the writers in fighting for a fair deal but that doesn't mean I can't comment on how this once well-written show has been plagued by bad, mediocre and inconsistent writing every since the fifth season (and some would say the fourth season as well). So, I hope that along with a new Showrunner there will be better writers brought in to get the show back to the good writing it used to have. Because most of the sixth season felt like it was phoned in with the season being filled with nothing more than filler episodes. And not to mention that terrible season finale that was a disappointment on so many levels.

So with that said, it's time for 9-1-1 Monday. I want to focus on Howard "Chimney" Han and Maddie Buckley. It's been such a joy watching their relationship go from friendship to romance. As a fan of Chimney and Maddie (or Madney as this ship is called), I really want to thank Jennifer Love Hewitt who plays Maddie. Because according to reports, when Maddie was introduced in the second season, they were planning on putting her with another newly introduced character fire fighter Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz. But thanks to her suggesting that Maddie should be with Chimney instead, the perfect romance was crafted. I can't imagine if they had gone with Maddie and Eddie because it's truly hard to imagine. I can't see them having any romantic chemistry. While Maddie and Chimney have amazing instant chemistry. And whether it goes canon or not, the same can be said for Evan "Buck" Buckley and Eddie who have equally amazing chemistry.

9-1-1 Monday: Dr. Karen and Henrietta Wilson

Happy 9-1-1 Monday! I'm continuing with another couples' post.

I really love Henrietta "Hen" and Dr. Karen Wilson's relationship. However, there is one thing I don't like about it, which was Hen cheating with her ex-girlfriend Eva in the first season. Although it only happened one time, it was still heartbreaking. It really felt like nothing more than the Showrunner and writers wanting to include unnecessary drama to their relationship by having Hen cheat on Karen in the episode Full Moon (Creepy AF) (season 1 episode 7). The cheating nearly ruined Karen and Hen's relationship but Karen did eventually forgive her. Not many relationships can survive infidelity but theirs did and grew stronger. However, the Showrunner and writers wouldn't let the viewers forget because throughout the series the cheating and the fallout from it continued to be brought up.

The Story of Athena Grant and Bobby Nash (Video)

Happy 9-1-1 Monday!

I've said it before but I feel like the creators of 9-1-1 lucked up on casting Angela Bassett and Peter Krause as Athena Grant and Robert "Bobby" Nash because they have amazing chemistry together. For 9-1-1 Monday, I wanted to post this really amazing video that was made by Killiarious Youtube. It's a little long (a little over 35 minutes) but it's very well made and has scenes from seasons 1-5 that focus on Athena and Bobby's relationship.

What I like about their relationship is that they are both older characters who knew what they wanted out of a relationship. So there was no need for any one to play games or be indecisive of what they want. And Athena as a divorcee and Bobby as a widower who both work in highly stressful first responder jobs, ended up finding each other and getting to experience love for a second time. Earlier in the first season, they already knew each other but it wasn't a real or deep connection. They were more like acquaintances that were on their way to becoming good friends. Throughout the first season, there were little moments between them that on the surface didn't amount to much that is until the surprise ending with Athena and Bobby going on a date. The second season is when you really get to see them explore their relationship and grow from there.

Through all six seasons of the show, it's been shown that Athena and Bobby have the kind of relationship that can pretty much weather the storm so to speak. They have their ups and downs and in spite of that, they continue to fight for the love they have.

Hen and Karen's Vow Renewal Ceremony Deserved More Time

Happy 9-1-1 Monday! I still find it disappointing that in the fifth season finale episode Starting Over, the Showrunner and writers wasted so much time on random emergencies that ran way too long. Instead, that time could have been used for Henrietta "Hen" and Dr. Karen Wilson's vow renewal ceremony. This was a scene that felt so shortchanged because it could have truly used more time. Because their renewal was lumped into the ending montage that focused on all the main characters instead of letting this moment have the time it needed to shine.

I really would have loved to have heard their vows or anything else the couple may have said during the ceremony. From what little that was shown of the vow renewal ceremony, it looked beautiful. But they needed more time devoted to this scene. I also would have loved if more of the reception was shown besides the Athena Grant and Robert "Bobby" Nash scene of the couple planning to finally go on their honeymoon. I would have loved to have seen Hen and Karen's first dance and not to mention the toasts their family and friends would have given in their honor.

And on one final note, to add to my point about shortchanged scenes, the same can be said for Athena and Bobby because when they got married back in the second season finale episode This Life We Choose, it was also during a montage scene. And it would have been nice to have seen more of their wedding as well.

Looking back at the first season, I can see where the writers were setting up all these significant little moments throughout the season between Police Sergeant Athena Grant and Fire Captain Robert "Bobby" Nash. And these moments would eventually lead to the big surprise ending of the first season finale. I still think they lucked up on the great chemistry between the characters (and actors) because otherwise this relationship that was heating up (no pun intended) in the second season would have fallen flat and fizzled out real quick with both the characters and viewers.

Most Memorable Scene: Maddie proposing to Chimney

It's 9-1-1 Monday! And as much as I thought the sixth season wasn't the best, it felt like mostly filler episodes leaving most of the main characters with nothing to do story wise for 18 episodes. Love in the Air (episode 17) is not one of my favorite episodes, it's okay. However, one of the best things about the episode is Howard "Chimney" Han and Maddie Buckley getting engaged.

In the prior episode Lost & Found (episode 16), Chimney was planning to propose to Maddie however, the ring went missing. This would become a running gag for both episodes with Chimney stressing out and Maddie eventually finding the ring. Which would lead to this wonderful little proposal in Love in the Air. It may not have been the proposal Chimney was planning but it's definitely something that's very special for them.

Most Memorable Scene: Buck and Eddie's reactions to Eddie being trapped underground

It's 9-1-1 Monday and I want to talk about Evan "Buck" Buckley and Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz's reactions to Eddie being trapped underground in the episode Eddie Begins (season 3 episode 15). First, I want to start with Buck, he completely lost it. There was no professionalism in that moment, he was absolutely devastated. His reaction was totally shocking because he was screaming for Eddie while deliriously digging in the mud by hand. Not to mention Fire Captain Robert "Bobby" Nash realizing how distraught Buck was had to pull him away from digging which resulted in Buck defeatedly crying, sobbing and falling back against him.

I find it interesting that Bobby, Henrietta "Hen" Wilson and Howard "Chimney" Han were not only trying to reassure Buck that Eddie was alive but they were trying to do everything they can to figure out how to rescue him. Because Buck really wasn't acting like a First Responder, he was acting like a grieving widow whose only thoughts were of trying to rescue the love of his life.

Meanwhile, you have Eddie trapped underground frantically trying to let them know he's still alive. You can hear the despair in his voice especially since his radio is either broken or he's too far underground for a signal to go through. And since there's no way to radio his team, if he wants to get out of there alive he's going to have to figure out a way to save himself. And thankfully that's what Eddie was able to do which I'll post another time because the montage scene is definitely something worth posting.

When I look back at this scene, I feel like this should have lead to Buck and Eddie getting together because Buck's reaction to Eddie being trapped underground was truly something else. That was not a platonic reaction especially since the other members of the team were also worried about Eddie but they didn't start sobbing and crying unlike Buck.

Happy 9-1-1 Monday! This conversation between Buck and Eddie always seemed more romantic than it should have been between two best friends. Especially with Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz telling Evan "Buck" Buckley he needed to move on because he had. That's a classic romance trope language for sure of telling an "ex or potential love interest" to move on.

Anyway, this conversation also highlights how they know each other better than anyone else does. These two care a lot about each other and are always trying to be there for each other. Buck knew that although Eddie was still a firefighter, he also knew that he wasn't happy being the LAFD Liaison at 9-1-1 Dispatch. At the time, Eddie didn't even want to admit to himself that he regretted quitting his job as an active firefighter but Buck knew.

Eddie had quit his job because he thought he was making the right decision. Because at the time his son Christopher had been stressing out over Eddie possibly dying from his job which can be very dangerous at times. However, the problem was that Eddie didn't have an actual conversation with Chris before he quit. But they did have one later in this episode and Chris admited he had been scared and worried about his dad but he never wanted Eddie to quit his job. But I do think Eddie taking time away from his job gave him the necessary time that would eventually set him on a much needed journey of healing from PTSD and anxiety.

Buck: H-Hey, you okay?

Eddie: Uh, yeah.

Buck: You look tired. Look, man, you-you don't need to pretend with me. It's okay to miss the job, you know? I-I remember what it was like when I was Fire Marshal Buck.

Eddie: This isn't the same thing. I like what I'm doing.

Buck: Yeah, but it-it's not what you're supposed to be doing. Y-You're a firefighter.

Eddie: I'm still a firefighter.

Buck: Well, yeah, but...

Eddie: Buck, you need to move on. I have.
