Buck: Uh... I mean, h-how-how does that even work? Don't you... Don't-don't you need my consent?
Eddie: My attorney said you could refuse.
Buck: You know I wouldn't.
Eddie: Nah, I know you wouldn't.
Buck: I mean, he-he has grandparents, other family.
Eddie: Yeah. After Shannon left, they all tried to guilt me into giving Christopher to them. It's not what I wanted then, it's not what I want now.
Buck: If it came to that, w-wouldn't they fight for him?
Eddie: I don't know. Maybe. Probably. But no one will ever fight for my son as hard as you. That is what I want for him.
Buck: Well, you said you did this last year. Why are just telling me now?
Eddie: Because, Evan, you came in here the other day and you said you thought it would have been better if it had been you who was shot. You act like you're expendable. But you're wrong.
~ Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz and Evan "Buck" Buckley, 9-1-1 season 4 episode 14: Survivors
I will never stop saying this but if either Buck or Eddie had been a woman they would already be together on this show. I don't know how many times I've seen a confession scene like this in other media. And it always leads to two characters getting together or realizing their feelings for each other. I still don't understand how the shooting and will reveal never lead to anything. Those were two key scenes that should have lead to them realizing their feelings for each other was more than friendship. Too bad the Showrunner and writers continue to waste the chemistry and connection Buck and Eddie have.
According to Tumblr's 2023 Year in Review - Ships list, Buck and Eddie (or Buddie as the ship is called) are #10 out of 100 for popular ships. It's also the only 9-1-1 ship on the list. It still surprises me how popular this ship is. Which is why I continue to not understand why the Showrunner and writers for 9-1-1 keep trying to force Buck and Eddie with random and boring love interests instead of putting them together. Especially since the ship continues to be one of the most popular ships from the show.
