Actor David Walton gives his thoughts on 9-1-1's Eddie Diaz (and the connection to New Girl)

If you're a New Girl fan do you remember the episode Wedding Eve (season 5 episode 21)? Throughout the episode Jess Day thought her boyfriend Sam Sweeney was going to propose but in the end they ended up breaking up. When he asked why she didn't want to marry him, Jess gave a simple answer that she didn't know. Sam said that she knew but didn't want to say it. But she was still adamant that she didn't know. So, while Sam was in the elevator and as the doors were closing, he told Jess the truth, "its Nick." I posted the scene below.

I still remember when I first watched this episode and that scene. I recall gasping because I couldn't believe he said that to her. Although, we as the viewers know that Jess has feelings for Nick. She had been doing her best to ignore or deny it. But hearing that from Sam, it caught her totally off guard. And she was just stunned standing in the hallway. I guess deep down Sam knew that her heart was with Nick and not him. And she needed to know that.

Okay, I mention all of this because David Walton, the actor who played Sam responded to someone's cameo question about 9-1-1 character Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz. I posted the video below. Eddie truly is in need of his own elevator moment to realize where his heart is. And that's with Evan "Buck" Buckley. David pretty much said what so many of us Eddie fans have been saying because Eddie does so many things out of obligation or what he think is best for his son Christopher.

He only married his late wife Shannon because she got pregnant. And he only dated Dr. Ana Flores because his son liked her since she was Christopher former English teacher. And Marisol, I feel like he's only with her because his Tia Pepa made him feel like he was lonely and he needed to start dating so he didn't wind up alone. And Marisol was just some random woman he reconnected with at a hardware store believing he found something "magical".

Eddie has truly never been in love with any of the women he's been with. And from the story the show has been telling, the only person Eddie has been all in with is Buck. That is where his heart truly is and I hope that the 9-1-1 Showrunner and writers will stop wasting so much time on this bland and lackluster relationship between Eddie and Marisol. It's really dragging down Eddie's seventh season storyline. A more compelling storyline for Eddie would have been him as a 30-something trying to figure out his sexuality. Which would explain why he never seems to truly connect romantically with women. I would truly love to know where Eddie's story is going during this seventh season because so far it's been a complete dud.
