Are the 9-1-1 season 7 post episode articles pointing towards a bigger story for Eddie and Buck?

I don't usually read a lot of post episode interviews and articles because I like to base the story on what is being shown on screen. However, I read through a few of the ones for 9-1-1 after the seventh season mid-season finale aired last night. I'm starting to get a sense that something big storywise is going to be happening for Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz and it will have nothing to do with that terrible relationship he's still stuck in with Marisol. Because despite trying to start over with her, I feel like this relationship will eventually end. Because yet again he's not following his heart, he's trying to force a romance with the wrong person. And despite trying to start over, it's already been shown that this relationship doesn't work. So when the relationship does finally end, I feel like Eddie is really going to be figuring out something about himself.

(9-1-1 season 5 episode 1: Panic)

Over the years, fans had picked up that Evan "Buck" Buckley was bi-sexual (which is now canon) and the same can be said about Eddie. Fans have also picked up that he isn't straight as well. To me, he reads as a gay man who is extremely repressed and living his life by how he thinks a "straight" man should be living. It will be interesting to see him finally getting a chance to live his life in a freeing way. But I'm sure it's going to be a difficult process for him. Because he's so far down the repression well, that the realization is going to hit him like a stack of bricks. But I think it will be just what he needs to truly be happy and find the love he's been looking for.

I read where Buck's current romantic storyline was supposed to go to Eddie. And I'm glad it didn't because this is a light-hearted sort of rom-com-esque with teachable moments. It's Abigail "Abby" Clark 2.0 with yet another older lover interest, Tommy Kinard helping Buck learn something about himself. While also doing that, maybe Buck should see a therapist to see why he has a thing for older people (Abby in season 1 and now Tommy in the current season 7). Is it because he never got the attention he should have from his parents, so he finds it in older love interests? It's just something that the show could address. And it could let Buck see he's still chasing attention from love interests (whether young or old) for the attention he didn't get from his parents.

Anyway, I'm glad Eddie didn't get this storyline because his story is so much more complex and it's going to take time to unravel. Unfortunately, we live in a time of limited attention spans and patience and zippy pace storytelling. We as viewers have become so accustomed to all this that slow storytelling feels like a foreign concept. I will certainly include myself on the part of being impatient. Because I will admit that I have been frustrated by the Showrunners and writers appearing to be baiting the Buck and Eddie (or Buddie) fans with storylines that seem like it's heading in one direction then immediately veering off course. But if they are creating something albeit slowly that will eventually lead to Buck and Eddie being together then I guess I can patiently wait. I'm not saying I'm going to be happy about waiting but I'll do my best to wait and see. However, I'm not going to stop talking about Buck and Eddie and their romantic potential. This relationship feels like a goldmine because with all the amazing chemistry and beautiful connection, it's difficult to see them passing on the opportunity to create a romance between Buck and Eddie.

I could be wrong and all these articles are nothing more than continued bait but I just feel like Eddie has a storyline that's far more that being stuck in a relationship with Marisol. And that Buck's current romance is to show him what he is eventually looking for especially since Tommy feels like an older gay slightly off version of Eddie. So, if they really are writing an epic Buck and Eddie romance, I just hope it doesn't take too long for it too happen.
