Review:
The creepy Case Files of Margo Maloo volume #2: The Monster Mall was such a good read. It centered on two stories or cases that required Margo's excellent knowledge and skills with dealing with and understanding the monsters in Echo City. And while trying to solve the cases, Margo asked her assistant Charles Thompson, who is an aspiring journalist, to write up an informative series for kids to know more about monsters. Something that will help them be aware because although most of the monsters cause no harm and want to be left alone. There might be a few that might be a little dangerous. Now back to the cases, the first was about a haunted house. Tia and Taye had contacted Margo because a lot of strange things were happening at the new house their family recently moved into. Margo along with Charles and Tia and Taye looked around the house to try to figure out what was causing the problems. Was it a ghost or something else?
The second case, had Margo and Charles help a small group of vampires. Octavia, one of the vampires, had contacted Margo because the group was dealing with teens invading their home, which is an abandoned mall. To make the situation even worse the teens were trying to see if the mall was haunted and with that means cameras. And if they happen to catch a vampire on film, that would cause so many problems for monsters because the world will know they exist. Is there a way for Margo to help keep the vampires from being discovered?
Both stories show how humans without realizing it, are encroaching on many of the monsters already dwindling spaces. Which leaves some monsters having to find new homes but that's also becoming difficult. There were a lot of things I found interesting in this second volume and one is seeing where Margo lived. It's very fitting for the mysterious young detective. There's a short epilogue story that ties into the first story but the reader also get a bit more information about Margo. I found it sad that her Uncle Vikram seems to be dealing with memory issues. I wonder if he has Alzheimer's or something of that nature.
What I found interesting about Charles in this second volume is that you can tell that he's trying to be a little bit more braver with each case and monsters he encounter even though he's still scared. And he's also determined to put together that monster information for kids. Charles' friend Kevin is also in this second volume and he's still a fun little nerdy character who's still afraid of monsters. However, at the end of the second case (story), he was getting to see a different side of a monster that lives in the apartment building that Kevin and Charles live in.
I really enjoyed reading this, it's well-written and the illustrations perfectly showcase the story. I thought the cases were interesting and you're getting to know more about Margo, Charles and the monsters as the series goes on. I can't wait to read the third volume to see what happens next.
