Books I Want to Read:
There are so many books I want to read and these two books are definitely going on my list: Nawlins by Deric Augustine and The Elsewhere Express by Samantha Sotto Yambao. Both are fantasy books with the first being set at a magical school and second being set on a magical train. Both focus on the main characters' uncovering secrets and also a bit of self-discovery. Based on the description, Nawlins feels like it's going to be full of drama, action and magic. And I wonder how wistful The Elsewhere Express will be especially since you only can get on the train when you feel like your life has no meaning. Regardless, both of these books seem like they are going to be really good reads.

Book: Nawlins by Deric Augustine
Description:
Welcome to Nawlins School of the Gifted, a prestigious all-Black academy for gifted young wizards, where the vibrant culture of New Orleans intertwines with ancient powers. Hidden from the world, this magical institution is a place where legacies are forged, and young wizards uncover their extraordinary destinies.
For fifteen-year-old Donna Marie Guillory from the Bronx, life has always been a battle—fighting for her mother’s health, for her family’s survival, and against a world that often seems stacked against her. But when a letter arrives inviting her to Nawlins, Donna discovers a hidden part of herself, a power she never knew she possessed.
At Nawlins, Donna finds more than a community; she uncovers a rich history and strength unlike anything she’s ever known. However, as she delves into her family’s mysterious past, she finds herself at the heart of a centuries-old conflict that threatens the very foundation of the school and possibly the fate of the entire world. Armed with her newfound abilities and unyielding determination, Donna must navigate treacherous alliances and confront a darkness that once tore her family apart. But she won’t do it alone. An unexpected ally, someone she believed she lost forever, will stand by her side.
Nawlins is more than a story of magic; it celebrates resilience, heritage, and the power of self-discovery. Step into a world where the past shapes the present and every choice carries the weight of generations.

Book: The Elsewhere Express by Samantha Sotto Yambao
Description:
When you lose your way in life, the Elsewhere Express just might find you. Step on board the train that may take you to your life’s purpose in this wistful, Ghibli-esque fantasy from the bestselling author of Water Moon.
You can’t buy a ticket for the Elsewhere Express. Appearing only to those whose lives are adrift, it’s a magical train seeming to carry very rare and special cargo: a sense of purpose, peace, and belonging.
Raya is one of those lost souls. She had dreamed of being a songwriter, but when her brother died, she gave up on her dream and started living his instead.
One day on the subway, as her thoughts wander, she’s swept off to the Elsewhere Express. There she meets Q, an intriguing artist who, like her, has lost his place in the world.
Together they find a train full of wonders, from a boarding car that’s also a meadow to a dining car where passengers can picnic on lily pads to a bar where jellyfish and whales swim through pink clouds.
Over the course of their long, strange night on the train, they also discover that it harbors secrets—and danger: A mysterious stranger has stowed away and brought with him a dark, malignant magic that threatens to destroy the train.
But in investigating the stowaway's identity, Raya also finds herself drawing closer to the ultimate question: What is her life's true purpose—and is it a destination the Elsewhere Express can take her to?
TV Show I Want to Watch:
If I read Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, I don't remember it but I have seen many of the adaptations so I least know of the story and characters. But I would still like to read (or re-read) the book. Anyway, I just now found out about the show The Artful Dodger. Which follows Jack Dawkins, one of the former pickpockets from Fagin's old group. And from the trailer, it looks like he got himself into some sort of trouble and is going to have fall back on his old ways to get out of it. I know the second season premieres today but I'll have to watch the first season first.
The Artful Dodger (Hulu)
Starring: Thomas Brodie-Sangster, David Thewlis, Maia Mitchell, Damon Herriman, Damien Garvey, Lucy-Rose Leonard, Tim Minchin and more
Creator: James McNamara, David Maher and David Taylor
Based On: Characters from the book Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens
Description:
In 1850s Australia, the past of Jack Dawkins, a former pickpocket who has become a surgeon, resurfaces when an old acquaintance, Fagin, arrives and lures him back into a life of crime.
