Book: A Cast-Off Coven (A Witchcraft Mystery book #2) by Juliet Blackwell
Rating: 4 stars
Review:
This was just as good as the first book. This time the main character Lily Ivory, a vintage clothing store owner and witch is asked to check out the reports of a ghost haunting the San Francisco School of Fine Arts. While ghost hunting, Lily along with a few others, stumble across the body of one of the school's most prominent donors, Jerry Becker.
There were a lot of supernatural things happening at the school, which had Lily trying to find out the source of all the chaos. Not only was she dealing with mysterious events surrounding the school, she was also trying to figure out what was going on with her love life with journalist Max Carmichael (who appeared in the first book). I like that her romance doesn't take up a majority of the book. It's more like a back story.
I like how despite Lily being a powerful witch she isn't perfect. She's always felt like an outsider but in the second book you can tell she's taking more chances with being more social. And she took a few chances with two new characters that were introduced in the book: Sailor and Max's brother Luc Carmichael. Sailor is a bit of a mysterious broody guy while Luc is a charming upbeat kind of a guy.
I enjoyed reading this because it was fast-paced, funny, exciting and dark. I like that the mystery started right away and it was filled with interesting characters who may or may not be involved with what's going on at the school.
I'm looking forward to reading the third book, hopeful the series continues to be a good read.
