Review:
What started out as a fun story about Delilah White quickly turned into something really silly and not in a humorous way.
Delilah could be compared to Martha Stewart, for her creativity and joy for home & garden stuff. She really loves her job at Domestic Bliss but as soon as a producer spot opened up, a heated round of office politics started between her and her co-worker Margo Hart. But mainly from Margo. They are both very good at their jobs and they both want that job promotion.
As a way to escape from all of that office turmoil, Delilah joins her friend Sofia for the 4th of July weekend at Sofia's family home. However, Margo soon joins them although she has been invited in the past and has rarely taken the opportunity to go with them before. Sofia thought Margo was up to something but Delilah decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and believe Margo was there just to enjoy the weekend.
Toss in a lackluster romance and a little deceit and you have premise of this story.
This book was trying too hard to be funny and the writing was really flat and boring. Most of the characters were not very well-written or likeable. Delilah is the only character that seems thought out but even she wasn't that interesting of a character. These characters are in their 30s but act like teenagers. It's hard to believe these are adults. I was also annoyed by the author including an Hispanic housekeep who just came across as being really stereotypical instead of a fully thought out character.
I couldn't bother to even finish reading this especially with all the ridiculous hijinks as the story went along.
This was not a good read for me and certainly not a fun summer read either. Many readers have compare this book to being Meg Cabot inspired but I don't see the comparison at all.
