Comic Book News: Lois and Clark's new comic book series, Vixen animated series and more

- Lois and Clark will be getting their own comic book series. Yes, this is correct. The company that has been trying their best to not only get rid of Lois and Clark's relationship but to get rid of Lois has finally decided to give them their own comic book series. I guess the success of Convergence must have made them realize that fans really do love Lois and Clark and are tired of the fauxmance.

This new series titled Superman: Lois and Clark will be spinning out of Convergence and will give readers a chance to see this version of Lois and Clark along with their son. The publishing date for this is October 14th and will be written by Dan Jurgens with illustrations by Lee Weeks. Below is the premise of the series:

Following the epic events of CONVERGENCE, here are the adventures of the last son and daughter of Krypton and Earth as they try to survive in a world not their own. But can they keep this world from suffering the same fate as their own? Can this Superman stop the villains he once fought before they are created on this world? What is Intergang, and why does Lois’s discovery of it place everyone she loves in jeopardy? And what will happen when their nine-year-old son learns the true identity of his parents?

Two other series spinning out of Convergence are:

1) Titans Hunt written by Dan Abnett with illustrations by Paulo Siqueira. The series which will be published in October will feature various versions of the Teen Titans.

2) Telos will be written by Jef King with illustrations by Carl Pagulayan and Jason Paz. The series also out in October will follow Telos as he travels across time and space as he tries to find his own life's story.

- According to reports DC Comics will be releasing eight six-issue miniseries for 2016. The lucky few to be getting a mini are: Poison Ivy, Swap Thing, Raven, Metal Men, Katana, Firestorm, Metamorpho and Sugar & Spike.

Poison Ivy's series titled Poison Ivy: Cycle of Life and Death will be written by Amy Chu. So far there has been no announcement about an artist for the series but Guillem March has been mentioned as being chosen as a cover artist.

The writers for the other series are: Marv Wolfman for Raven, Len Wein for both Swap Thing and Metal Men, Mark W. Barr for Katana, Gerry Conway for Firestorm, Aaron Lopresti for Metamorpho and Keith Griffen for Sugar & Spike. Hopefully this miniseries will work out better for Katana since the last series for the New 52 ended up being canceled.

- One of my favorite Batgirls will finally be returning, Cassandra Cain. She will featured in the upcoming Batman and Robin Eternal, it's a sequel to the Batman Eternal series. This new series will be focusing on Robin. This 26 issue weekly series will be written by Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Tom King, Tim Seeley, Genevieve Valentine, Jackson Lanzing and Ed Brisson with illustrations by Tony Daniels.

- CW has released a teaser trailer for the Vixen animated series which will air August 25th on the CW Seed. Vixen will be voiced by actress Megalyn Echikunwoke (best known for her roles on The FollowingCSI: Miami, The 4400 and Supernatural).

I'm trying not to give a knee jerk reaction because watching the trailer, the voice acting is not very good except for the actress for Vixen. I know that many of the actors from The Flash and Arrow reprise their roles for this but I wonder if it would have been better to cast actual voice actors. Just because they're actors doesn't make them great voice actors.

Something that starting to get really old and annoying is Cisco naming every character. He doesn't have to keep doing that. I do hope they keep the Arrow and Flash characters to a minimum so the focus will be on Vixen and not promoting the other shows.

All that aside, I am excited to see this. Perhaps if this is a success, Megalyn Echikunwoke will be cast to play Vixen in a live action series on the CW.
