Book of Interest: Gotham City Sirens: Trigger Happy

I can't believe I didn't know that Gotham City Sirens was back with two miniseries and the first one, Trigger Happy by Leah Williams and Matteo Lolli which was published two years ago. I loved reading the original Gotham City Sirens comic book series which like so many other really good comics was cancelled for the New 52. The New 52 turned out to be a complete waste because it ruined so many characters and their stories while also removing or erasing other characters. Somehow I must have missed that the trio of Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn were back. It will be interesting to see how these three will stop all the chaos that new energy drink is causing.

I will be getting this as soon as possible along with the second miniseries, Unfit for Orbit.

Book: Gotham City Sirens: Trigger Happy by Leah Williams and Illustrations by Matteo Lolli

Description:

The bad girls of Gotham are at it again! The Gotham City Sirens — Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy — are back together for the first time in years, ready to dole out their own brand of “justice” as a new threat emerges in the place they call home!

A new energy drink has become all the rage in Gotham, thanks to a rather unorthodox marketing campaign! Caffeinated citizens are being pushed to riot for the chance to participate in “hunting” parties that involve herds of bio-mechanical beasts flooding the streets, putting civilians and the environment at risk. Thankfully, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy are on the case! Together again as the Gotham City Sirens, they’re here to prove that sometimes the only way to stop bad is with even worse!

Join the rising-star team of Leah Williams and Matteo Lolli as they take the Sirens on a wild romp through their city, facing down everything from cowboy creeps to salacious internet streamers in the complete series, Gotham City Sirens #1-4!

Fashion Meets Comics: Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn Sweatshirt

Happy Tuesday! How was everyone's labor day? It was very relaxing.

Anyway, I was looking at the DC Shop website this morning looking for something else when I found this Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn sweatshirt. I just love the bright and colorful artwork by Jen Bartel, it's so cute. I hate that summer is nearing its end, it's my favorit season but it is ending. I can't believe I have been looking at fall fashion items, which is probably why I'm actually interested in buying a sweatshirt despite it still being summer.

The price isn't too bad, I just wonder if there was a sale yesterday. I wish I had checked. Anyway, it's still a cute sweatshirt that I could see pairing with jeans, pants, skirts and even over dresses.

Art of the Day: Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy

Artwork: Harley and Ivy by Adriana Melo

I love this artwork, it truly feels like the embodiment of a carefree summer and head over heels love and romance. Harley and Ivy's love feels so timeless and no matter how chaotic life (or Gotham) gets they will always be there for each other.

And speaking of Gotham, I haven't watched the fourth season of the Harley Quinn animated series. Thankfully only three episodes have aired, the fourth episode will air tomorrow on HBO Max. So, it won't take me long to get caught up.

Art of the Day: Poison Ivy

Artwork: Poison Ivy lines by Jim Lee and color by JPRart (Jeremy Roberts)

For anyone who doesn't know, the third season of the Harley Quinn animated series will premiere on Thursday, July 28th on HBO Max. I wish the title of the show was Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy especially since Ivy is a rather prominent character in the show. Anyway, I can't wait for Harley Quinn to return.

Update: I forgot to add the Harley Quinn animated series is not for children.

Art of the Day: Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn

Artwork: Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy #3 variant cover by Ejikure

Since, I don't have DC Universe, I still haven't seen the Harley Quinn animated series with also includes Poison Ivy as one of the main characters. This show (which is not for kids) turned out to be a surprisingly bit hit with fans. Well, at some point I'm going to buy the first season on DVD so I can watch it.

Despite the show doing very well with fans, so far there is no information on when the second season will be released on DVD or whether the show will be renewed for a third season. Hopefully, fans will find out something soon.

Update: Harley Quinn is renewed for a third season which will air on HBO Max

Book Club Picks for July: Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, Batman: Harley and Ivy and Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void

The postponement is finally over, the book clubs are back! We've had a three month break and now it back to reading. For anyone who doesn't know there are three book clubs: The Book Girl's Book Club, Comic Book Club and Star Wars Book Club. The first club is where we read books from all types of genres except for comic books. Which is why we have the second club and the third club is for reading Star Wars books. Feel free to pick from whatever book club or book selection you find interesting or you could read them all.

For this month, I picked Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli for The Book Girl's Book Club. I wanted to read this last month but my reading slump put and end to that plan. So, I thought why not make it a book club pick instead.

For the Comic Book Club, I picked Batman: Harley and Ivy: The Deluxe Edition by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm. It's an anthology that features several stories about the lovable yet deadly duo Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy.

As for the Star Wars Book Club, I picked Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void by Tim Lebbon. Despite being a big Star Wars fan, I haven't read a lot of the books. Which is the reason why I started this book club because I wanted to inspire other Star Wars fans to read the books as well. This book is set during the Pre-Republic and although these Legends books are no longer canon, they  should still be considered worth reading.

The Book Girl's Book Club Pick:

Book: Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

Description:

Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight.

Now change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he's pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he's never met.

Incredibly funny and poignant, this twenty-first-century coming-of-age, coming out story—wrapped in a geek romance—is a knockout of a debut novel by Becky Albertalli.

Comic Book Wednesday: February 19th Picks

Happy Comic Book Wednesday!

I noticed there are fans mad at DC Comics because it appears the company is actively trying to erase Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy's relationship. On Valentine's Day, one of DC Comic's Twitter account's posted Harley complaining about being single while she watched TV seeing a romantic image of Superman and Wonder Woman. It's bad enough they chose to ignore Harley's relationship with Ivy but also ignored Superman's relationship to his wife Lois Lane. Although, I haven't read the final issue of the Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy miniseries, I have seen where fans were disappointed with the ending specifically in regards to Ivy and Harley's relationship.

I do wonder if Harley Quinn's newfound popularity from the Birds of Prey movie has DC Comics wanting to distance Harley from Ivy? Anyway, fans are not happy and I can understand because Ivy and Harley are great together and it wouldn't make any sense to get rid of their relationship.

Aside from that, here's my list, it's just my usual group of books but I can't wait to read them.

DC Comics

Art of the Day: Poison Ivy

Artwork: Poison Ivy by Paulina Ganucheau

I really wish Poison Ivy was in the Birds of Prey movie but maybe if it does well at the box office. She could be in the sequel or even better make a Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy movie. So far, there has been no mention of her appearing in the upcoming Batman movie which is disappointing since Catwoman and bunch of other characters will be in it. I don't want Batman & Robin to have been Poison Ivy's last appearance in a movie, she's too amazing to be forgotten.

Book of Interest: Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass

I'm so happy that Poison Ivy is getting more appreciation from DC Comics. She will be featured in two books with Harley Quinn that will be released in the first week of September. The first book is this graphic novel, Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass on Tuesday, Sept. 3rd and the second is first issue of the Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy miniseries released on Wednesday, September 4th.

As much as I'm a big fan of both characters, it's Ivy that needs more promotion. I hope this newfound interest from DC Comics will continue because Poison Ivy is an amazing character. Anyway, I can't wait to read this book to see if Harley figures out who she is and whether she will side with Ivy or Joker.

Book: Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass by Mariko Tamaki with illustrations by Steve Pugh

Publication: September 3, 2019

Description:

With just five dollars and a knapsack to her name, fifteen-year-old Harleen Quinzel is sent to live in Gotham City. She's not worried, though—she's battled a lot of hard situations as a kid, and knows her determination and outspokenness will carry her through life in the most dangerous city in the world. And when Gotham's finest drag queen, Mama, takes her in, it seems like Harley has finally found a place to grow into her most "true true" with new best friend Ivy at Gotham High.

But when Mama's drag cabaret becomes the next victim in the wave of gentrification that's taking over the neighborhood, Harley gets mad. She decides to turn her anger into action and is faced with two choices: join activist Ivy, who's campaigning to make the neighborhood a better place to live, or join her anarchist friend Joker, who plans to take down Gotham one corporation at a time.

From Eisner Award and Caldecott Honor-winning author Mariko Tamaki (This One Summer) and Eisner Award-nominated artist Steve Pugh comes a coming-of-age story about choices, consequences, and how a weird kid from Gotham goes about defining her world for herself.
