Fashion Meets Comics: Mulan T-Shirt

Sometimes it's so hard to believe how time seems to fly by because it's Mulan's 20th Anniversary, it was released in theaters on June 5, 1998. Mulan is one of my favorite movies because you have Fa Mulan, a young woman whose main goal was initially to take her father's place when he was drafted for the army but ending up saving the day. Her father was old, injured and in poor health and she knew he would never survive the grueling training let alone the war so she took it upon herself to go in his place. She did that by pretending to be a guy but her secret was eventually revealed leaving her disgraced. But even that didn't stop her from helping General Li Shang and the rest of the troops when they were in dire need of help. She showed that being a hero is not defined by what's on the outside (being a man) but who you are on the inside (your character).

I think Disney has a great track record with producing amazing movies but there is just something special about Mulan and I can see why this movie has stood the test of time because it has everything: great writing, humor, action, romance, drama, interesting characters and outstanding music. You have a hero who didn't set out to be a hero because all she wanted to do was stand in for her father.

I really like this t-shirt but let's be honest the image on the shirt shows a perfect and pretty version of Mulan that she thought she had to aspire to be in order to get a husband. But by being herself, she found someone (General Shang) who saw how special she was (seriously she fought off Shan Yu and his invading Huns) and it had nothing to do with her looks. Regardless, I'd still wear this shirt because the artwork is simply beautiful and as a huge fan of the movie I would totally feel honored to wear it.
