Fandom Friday: Random Fandom Thoughts #12: Buck and Taylor, Teen Wolf

It's Friday, what fandom thoughts are on your mind?

- Wow, I've never seen the 9-1-1 fandom so excited more than they have been today after the show released the upcoming synopsis for the fifth season eighth episode Past is Prologue (that I posted below). Fans are apparently excited for the potential break up of firefighter Evan "Buck" Buckley and TV News Reporter Taylor Kelly.

Despite the writers doing a rewrite on Taylor's character for the fourth and fifth seasons, a lot fans never seemed to like her after her appearance in the second season. I'm sure it hasn't gone unnoticed by the writers and creators of the show which is why they tried to rewrite the character. However, as much as I'm not a fan of Taylor, I think someone on the creative team must really like her and her relationship with Buck so it's a possibility that despite the synopsis, the writers could be setting up to create a stronger connection between them.

For me, I thought Buck and Taylor were better off as friends but for some reasons the writers pushed them together at the end of the fourth season. And so far this fifth season they seemed to have lost whatever chemistry they had in the second and fourth seasons because their relationship feels really awkward. Unless, that's what they writers want the viewer to see or it could be from the actors. I feel like this fifth season, Taylor is trying to be soft and kind and the perfect girlfriend but it seems weird, fake and out of character for her. Especially since she's usually shown as aggressive, blunt and as an in your face sort of character. Meanwhile, Buck who all last season wanted to be in a relationship and have that meaningful connection, finally got what he wanted and he doesn't seem happy. He seems even lonelier than before while their relationship seems superficial and lacking a deep emotional connection.

Although I think their relationship doesn't work and I would like to think this is the beginning of the end for Buck and Taylor. I'm not going to get my hopes up, instead I'm going to wait and see what will actually happen. Because knowing this show the writers might drag this relationship out longer than necessary trying to make it work instead of ending it. I don't know, I'll guess we'll see how this episode ends once it airs on Monday, November 15th. (Update: This episode Past is Prologue has been moved to episode 9 and will no longer air on November 15th)

(Taylor and Buck         9-1-1 season 4 episode 8: Breaking Point)

- I'm not surprised that the Teen Wolf TV series is returning as a movie because the series finale The Wolves of War was disappointing. Hopefully, the movie which will air on Paramount+ in 2022 will be well written and directed, have a bigger budget and can bring back the characters (with the show's original actors) then I think it could work. So far, it hasn't been reported if Dylan O'Brien (who played Stiles Stilinski) and Tyler Hoechlin (who played Derek Hale) will also appear in upcoming the movie. But I would be surprised if they are especially since Hoechlin is currently starring as Clark Kent/Superman in The CW series Superman & Lois and O'Brien seems to be constantly filming movies. So, I guess, we'll see.

(Derek and Stiles         Teen Wolf season 3 episode 2: Chaos Rising)

On a side note, the TV series Psych (which is also one of my favorite shows) has been the only contemporary show that has successfully returned with ongoing movies. Psych's third movie This is Gus will premiere Thursday, November 18th on Peacock.
