Happy Halloween! (+ a Geeky Holiday List)

Trick or Treat! How are you celebrating the holiday? Are you dressing up? Are you watching scary movies? It's not really a party but me and few friends are going watch some scary movies and some TV show episodes while eating popcorn, candy and other snacks. And speaking of watching TV shows, for this geeky Halloween list I went with Halloween or spooky, eerie, supernatural sort of episodes of procedural shows. Because everyday life can be just a frightful as a horror movie.

However you plan on celebrating the day, Happy Halloween everyone!

I don't know why I was thinking about Shawn Spencer and Burton "Gus" Guster's hilarious "Shout" performance in the Psych episode American Duos (season 2 episode 1). Not to agree with Nigel St. Nigel but they weren't in sync. They were wearing two different costumes and doing two different types of choreography until the very end.

Detective Juliet O'Hara did try to choreograph a routine for them but it looks like Gus and Shawn just did their own dance routine. And despite Nigel not liking their performance, it was entertaining. The audience certainly enjoyed it despite Nigel bullying them to be silent which is why I'm glad they booed his mean comments.

Fandom Friday: Random Fandom Thoughts #13: Psych movie, Dean Miller, 9-1-1

Good evening everyone, it may be a little late but it's never too late to post fandom thoughts. What fandom thoughts are on your mind?

- I watched Psych 3: This is Gus and the movie is so good, it's funny and has an interesting mystery with Burton "Gus" Guster and Shawn Spencer trying to figure out who Gus' fiancé Selene really is. I'm really hoping there will be a fourth movie especially with the way it ended. What I like about these Psych movies is that each one is better than the last one and that the characters get to grow while still being as ridiculous as ever.

Fandom Friday: Random Fandom Thoughts #12: Buck and Taylor, Teen Wolf

It's Friday, what fandom thoughts are on your mind?

- Wow, I've never seen the 9-1-1 fandom so excited more than they have been today after the show released the upcoming synopsis for the fifth season eighth episode Past is Prologue (that I posted below). Fans are apparently excited for the potential break up of firefighter Evan "Buck" Buckley and TV News Reporter Taylor Kelly.

Despite the writers doing a rewrite on Taylor's character for the fourth and fifth seasons, a lot fans never seemed to like her after her appearance in the second season. I'm sure it hasn't gone unnoticed by the writers and creators of the show which is why they tried to rewrite the character. However, as much as I'm not a fan of Taylor, I think someone on the creative team must really like her and her relationship with Buck so it's a possibility that despite the synopsis, the writers could be setting up to create a stronger connection between them.

Happy Tuesday the 17th (Psych Holiday)

Psych fans, it's our holiday, Tuesday the 17th. I know I posted the episode for the Friday the 13th geeky list but this horror movie spoofed episode is one of the best. And who said you can't watch the episode again.

Happy Friday the 13th!

It's Friday the 13th, how do you feel about the day? Is it good luck, bad luck or just another day? I'm not a superstitious person, so I see the day as a fun holiday. So beside watching as many of the classic Friday the 13th horror movies as I can, I thought I would post a geeky list of shows with episodes that deal with a bit of superstition and luck.

Super Bowl Geeky Holiday TV List

I know Super Bowl Sunday is seen as the ultimate sporting event/holiday but I have absolutely no interest in watching the game. In the past, I would go to Super Bowl parties mainly to hang out with my friends. But then I realized aside from being with my friends the game was so boring. Ever since then, I would either hang out with like minded non-football friends and I do something fun with them or spend the day by myself doing whatever I wanted.

So, for my fellow non-football fans, I decided to create a geeky football list of shows to watch. I may not like football but I can enjoy it when it's on a show. Whether you watch any of the shows on my list or watch something else, don't forget the snacks.

Fashion Meets Fandom: Pineapple Clutch (Psych and Spongebob Squarepants)

This pineapple print clutch is the reason why I decided to create Fashion Meets Fandom because not everything fits into the Fashion Meets Comics category. Because as soon as I saw this bag, I immediately thought of Psych and Spongebob Squarepants and how this tropical fruit has become associated with both fandoms. Spongebob's house is a pineapple and in Psych the pineapple appeared in some shape or form in every episode.

I like this clutch, it's cute while being both timeless and trendy. Obviously, you don't have to be a fan of Spongebob or Psych to carry this but it will have an additional meaning for the fans that do.

Characters Reading: Shawn Spencer and Burton Guster (Psych)

Out of this "psychic" crime fighting duo, Burton "Gus" Guster is the only one I see actually picking up a book. To either read for enjoyment or gather information for his job in pharmaceutical sales as well as looking for information to help solve a case. It should also be noted that Gus is a huge Harry Potter fan and has read all the books and seen all the movies.

Meanwhile, Shawn Spencer, who may be unbelievably observant to details, is also lazy and there is no way he's reading anything unless the book could help them solve a case. And I say even then he would probably just skim through it.

Okay, who's watching Psych: The Movie tonight? It's already being lauded as the reunion special we Psych fans have to see. I really can't wait to see this, the entire cast has returned for this two hour movie.

A Perfect Tote Bag for Psych Fans

The TV series Psych was known for a lot of things: humor, interesting and sometimes outlandish mysteries, witty banter, dramatic and unexpected moments but also for the inside gag of the pineapple, which appears in some shape or form in every episode.

That's why when I saw this tote bag I immediately thought of Psych. Because the pineapple has become synonymous with the TV show (well, at least with us geeks).

This tote is so cute, I think I'll add it to my wishlist.

What I'm Watching Tonight: The Psych Season Finale

Wow, can you believe the last and finale episode of Psych will air tonight (check your local listing for the time).

This show is so great. It's one of my favorite shows, I'm glad that at least it's going out while it's still great. Because don't you feel like some shows stay on for far too long and then end up being canceled.

Book Review: The Call of the Mild

Book: The Call of the Mild (Psych book #3) by William Rabkin

Rating: 1 star

Review:

I never thought I would be giving Psych a 1 star rating but this book was not very good. It was extremely boring and I thought the story and the mystery were poorly written and the characterizations were off. Shawn and Gus didn't even seem like themselves at all. The beauty of the Psych TV series is that it's not just Shawn and Gus, it's also Detectives Lassiter and O'Hara, Chief Vick and Shawn's dad Henry, all of these wonderful and amazing characters are written into an equally wonderful and amazing show.

This book failed to capture what's great about these characters, in fact it nearly ignored Detective Juliet O'Hara and Chief Vick. It took forever for the mystery to begin and as the story dragged on I was getting to the place where I didn't care what was happening and who the murderer was.

The mystery started with Psych being hired by a teacher, Ellen Svaco to retrieve a lost necklace that she believed she lost during a school field trip. Once, they found the necklace which Shawn found at the lost and found (all while Gus had been searching the grounds), they had been held-up by a mime who took their clothes all in an attempt to get the necklace.

After they got their clothes back, they went to Ellen Svaco's home where they not only found Detective Lassiter waiting for them but also the home owner dead. From there a very diluted and very boring mystery follows.

I enjoyed reading the first book but this one was really boring, hopefully the other books in the series are not as bad as this one was because I would like to read more.

Currently Reading: The Call of the Mild

I love watching Psych it's one of my favorite shows and now it will be ending soon.

This will be the second book I will be reading from the Psych book series, the other book was "A Mind is Terrible Thing to Read (Psych book #1)". I really enjoyed reading that, hopefully this one will be just as good.

Over the weekend, I bought five new books (and some bookmarks):

* Psych: The Call of the Mild by William Rabkin

* The Carrie Diaries (The Carrie Diaries book #1) by Candace Bushnell

* The Book of Spells: A Private Prequel by Kate Brian

The last two books I found for a bargain. They were three dollars each and the others were of course regular price. It will probably be a while before I get to reading any of them but the first book I'd probably start with, would be Psych. So far I have only read one book from the series but the one I read felt just like I was watching the show. Hopefully this one is just as well written.

As for bookmarks, one of the three was Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory. He's so annoying but you just gotta love him.

What I'm Watching Tonight: Psych

Can you believe it? Psych is finally back. The 7th season premiere is on tonight. I can't wait. This is one of the best shows on TV.

Shawn and Gus are back to solving crimes and we will find out if Shawn's father Henry will survive after being shot. I hope so, the show wouldn't be the same without him.
