Fandom Friday: Random Fandom Thoughts #24: Jonah Greenway, Percy Jackson TV Series and MCU Movie Anniversaries

Happy Friday, I hope you had a good week and hopefully the weekend will be to. I wanted to know what fandom thoughts are on your mind?

- I can't believe I'm saying this but Jonah Greenway is turning out to be a much more interesting new 9-1-1 character than Lucy Donato. I don't understand why the show's marketing team hyped up Lucy so much and not to mention all the interviews promoting the character only for her to be one of the most boring characters on the show. I think they really miscalculated with who they decided to promote especially since Jonah's Angel of Death storyline is so much more interesting.

When it was announced that the show was introducing two new recurring characters for the second half of the fifth season, I was a little apprehensive. And that was mainly because the showrunners and writers did such a terrible job with the first half of the season by focusing so much screentime on unnecessary things including giving fan despised character Taylor Kelly way too much screentime. I figured they would do the same with these new characters. Apprehension aside, I was also excited about the announcement since one of the new recurring characters was going to be a woman firefighter. Because at the time Henrietta "Hen" Wilson was the only main character woman firefighter/paramedic on the show.

My apprehension quickly turned to annoyance with how much promotion Lucy was getting along with all the screentime. Especially since her character is boring and has served no purpose other than being involved in a ridiculous and equally boring love triangle between her, Evan "Buck" Buckley and Taylor Kelly. However, despite Jonah receiving so little screentime, his character has managed to really stand out especially with all the creepy vibes he's been giving off. So far, it seems as if he is intentionally harming people on emergency calls in order to be a "hero" in saving their lives. And in this recent Monday's episode May Day, the death of 9-1-1 Dispatcher Claudette Collins may have officially put Jonah on Hen's radar because Claudette's death seemed very suspicious. In next Monday's episode Hero Complex, it looks like Hen and her best friend and fellow firefighter/paramedic Howard "chimney" Han plan to do a little amateur detecting on Jonah.

In one of my post, How to Fix the Problem of Jonah Greenway and Lucy Donato, I wrote how the writers could make them more interesting characters. And I'm glad their thought process is in the same area as mine at least in regards to Jonah. However, Lucy continues to be boring and forgettable, perhaps in these upcoming last two episodes of the season, the writers will surprise viewers by having her turn out to be Jonah's accomplish or her having a vindictive grudge against the 118 and she's planning to go after them. It would make so much sense to have her be a villain instead of the boring way the writers are currently using her especially as it's been hinted in interviews about her still being there in the next season. I'm really hoping she doesn't return for the next season but if she does just make her a villain, it will actually give her character an interesting purpose for being there.

- I love the Percy Jackson movies even though they have gotten mixed reviews from fans, I've enjoyed watching them. And I'm excited for the upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV series which will air on Disney+. The actors for Percy Jackson trio have been announced and they are Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood. I'm interested to see how the show's writers will adapt the book series which is written by Rick Riordan.

- Happy belated 11th Anniversary to the Thor movie, it was released in theaters May 2, 2011 and Happy 6th Anniversary to Captain America: Civil War, the movie was originally released May 6, 2016. I love the first Thor movie, it was truly Shakespeare meets Norse mythology and it was a wonderful introduction of all the characters. As for Captain America: Civil War it was a good movie but it felt more like an unofficial Avengers movie instead of a Captain America movie.
