It's Disability Pride Month and throughout these last couple of weeks I want to post a few Geeky Lists of shows and movies that have disabled characters. Whether they are main, recurring or guest characters, representation is important. Everyone has a story and no two stories are the same. Especially for a community who tends to be overlooked in our society.
For this first list, I included three shows and three movies that highlight a variety of different stories.
Clifford the Big Red Dog
Characters: K.C. and Mary
Season 1 episode 8: 1) A New Friend 2) Stormy Weather
Description:
1) There is a new dog in town, and he only has three legs, making Clifford, Cleo and T-Bone a little uncomfortable about how to address it. 2) Clifford's incessant digging causes trouble for the whole town.

Description:
1) Cleo is so excited when K.C. visits, that she neglects her other friends. 2) Mac's disappointed when rain threatens the barbecue.

1) Cleo discovers her grandmother was a queen. 2) Charly relives a basketball game through his friends' stories.
Season 2 episode 10: 1) Doggy Detectives 2) Camping It Up
Description:
1) K.C. tries to figure out how equipment keeps disappearing from the playground. 2) Jetta thinks camping will be boring.
Season 2 episode 12: 1) When I Grow Up 2) Not Now, I'm Busy
Description:
1) Jetta gives Charley a hard time when she hears that he wants to be a Martial Arts Master when he grows up. 2) K.C. tells his friends he is too busy to play but there's a reason why.

Description:
1) Clifford accidentally takes a bath with tie-dye dyes and tries to hide his new look. 2) Mary overcomes her stage fright.

Season 2 episode 8: The Encyclopedia Hustle
Character: Mr. Anderson
Description:
The Evans family find themselves in a little trouble when the fine print at the bottom of an "easy payment" contract for an encyclopaedia set catches them off guard. They realize that they may have been scammed by the salesman who is blind.
Season 3 episode 10: Willona's Dilemma
Character: Walter Ingles
Description:
Willona is interested in a man who is deaf. While they have good times, she is not interested in marrying him. When Willona thinks the man is going to propose to her, she does not know how to turn him down.
Season 5 episode 8: Breaker, Breaker
Character: Nancy Colton "Fun Girl"
Description:
After Bookman hides a CB radio at the Evans' place, Michael starts a conversation with `Fun Girl', but when he goes to meet her, he is shocked to find out that she is disabled.

Season 2 episode 5: Cousin Geri
Description:
Blair's cousin Geri, a comedian who has Cerebral Palsy, comes to visit.
Season 3 episode 4: A Friend in Deed
Description:
Blair's mother arrives on a surprise visit and Blair is ecstatic until dire news is revealed about her mother's health.
Season 3 episode 10: Cousin Geri Returns
Description:
Blair is afraid her cousin is being set up for a disappointing romance when Mr. Palmer, the French teacher, asks Geri out on a date.
Season 3 episode 15: Starstruck
Description:
Tootie can't believe her ears when she's "personally" invited to the concert of her biggest idol, rock star Jermaine Jackson, for being his "number one fan".
Season 3 episode 24: Read No Evil
Description:
The Eastland school becomes embroiled in the issue of book banning when the school board "re-evaluates" several classic books from the library. And an angry editorial gets Natalie bounced from the school paper.

Tootie refuses to believe she is suffering from hearing loss until she is in an accident. And Geri tries to give Tootie advice when she learns that Tootie is losing her hearing.

Season 4 episode 15: Teacher's Pet
Description:
Jo is furious when she learns that a favourite teacher is planning to leave Eastland. Until she learns that her favorite teacher is terminally ill.

Description:
Blair and Jo share a common feeling of disdain toward their graduation from Eastland.

Description:

Blair's cousin Geri asks for her help with a charity function for disabled children. Then Blair takes away all of Geri's responsibilities in planning the event.
