Station 19 Thursday: My Thoughts on Seventh Season Premiere

Happy Station 19 Thursday!

I really loved watching the seventh season premiere episode This Woman's Work, I thought it was great. From Dr. Carina DeLuca and Maya Bishop expanding their family with plans to adopt a baby to Jack Gibson's dire health situation (if he can't be a firefighter, can he be a fire marshal? Or maybe just run the Dean Miller Memorial clinic?). To Andrea "Andy" Herrera dealing with a little stress and insecurity about being the new captain of Station 19 (I'm sure she can do it, she just need to get out of her head and stop overthinking). To Fire Chief Natasha Ross dealing with the possibility she might be fired (thankfully she wasn't) and sorting out her relationship with Robert Sullivan.

To Travis Montgomery and Emmett Dixon having an unexpected sexual moment (I'm sure that's going to cause some kind of trouble since Travis is still with Eli Stern). To Victoria "Vic" Hughes and Theo Ruiz working together despite their relationship ending. I do wonder if Theo regret breaking up with her because it seemed like he wanted to talk about it. But telling her he hooked up with Kate Powell during the Firefighters' Ball (which happened after him and Vic had broke up) certainly didn't help the situation. I don't know what he was expecting. Maybe he regrets breaking up with her or he was looking for a reaction from his hooking up with Kate. However, Vic had no interest in dealing with him especially after the Crisis One emergency turned sideways instead of going like it should have. The only one who didn't really have a lot going on in this story was Dr. Benjamin "Ben" Warren, well I guess he is still dealing with an injury.

And speaking of that Crisis One emergency, Vic really stood out in this episode because with this emergency she tried to de-escalate a hostage situation. There was a lady, Phyllis Myers who was holding the employees of a science company hostage with flammable chemicals. She was angry that the jerk science guys Sanjay and Kevin, who owned the company, had stole her research and was using it to make money. Her research was for low cost technology for water purification and it was supposed to be available for free to use to make a difference in the world. Instead the science bros had stole it and were using it to make a profit. So I can see why Phyllis was mad.

Vic was working so hard to connect with Phyllis and it was starting to work. And just when Vic had everything under control after she was able to talk Phyllis into letting the hostages leave the building, one of the science bros Kevin, made everything worse. He decided to insult Phyllis which had her ready to finish what she started. Things quickly went bad, Phyllis set fire to the building's computer servers which caused an explosion and a fire. It left Vic, Phyllis, Sanjay and Kevin barricading themselves in a small office on the third floor in need of being rescued.

You know what I loved, Vic kept everyone safe and monitored the situation while they waited for Captain Herrera's plan of rescue. The emergency might not have gone how Vic wanted but no one died. However, she was disappointed because although she did de-escalate the situation, Phyllis was most likely going to jail or prison for the hostage situation and setting fire to the building. So to Vic this was not a successful Crisis One emergency even if she did everything that she was supposed to. I'm really looking forward to watching the new episode Good Grief airing tonight.
