Quote: Lorelai Gilmore and Michel Gerard (Gilmore Girls)

Lorelai: Michel, the phone.

Michel: Mmhmm. It rings.

Lorelai: Can you answer it?

Michel: No. People are particularly stupid today. I can't talk to any more of them.

I just adore Michel, throughout the Gilmore Girls' first episode he had to deal with non-stop calls from customers who didn't understand that the Independence Inn was completely booked. It wasn't as if he wasn't doing his job and being helpful but they just didn't seem to understand. And at this point, he just didn't want to deal with any more of them.

Most Memorable Scene: Lorelai Gilmore Sensing Snow

I can smell when it's going to rain but unlike Lorelai Gilmore I can't smell when it's going to snow. I love that Lorelai has this uncanny ability to know when it's going to snow. It's pretty spectacular that this is one of her character traits. I have to agree, it does feel magical watching the snow fall. The next time it snows, I'll take the time to enjoy it.

Quote: Lorelai Gilmore, Kirk Gleason and Luke Danes

Lorelai: What are you doing, Kirk?

Kirk: Did you just eat a 3 musketeers?

Lorelai: No.

Kirk: You're sure? You really smell like nougat.

Luke: Stop sniffing my fiancee.

Kirk: I can't help it. My senses are much more finely tuned these days.

Lorelai: What is the scary man talking about?

Luke: He's on a juice fast.

Lorelai: Why?

Kirk: Just wanted to clean out the pipes, refocus the arteries. I want to get the healthy glow of someone who consistently goes to the gym...without having to go to the gym, of course.

Lorelai: Of course. You look positively radiant.

~ Gilmore Girls season 6 episode 16: Bridesmaids Revisited

Kirk was very annoying in this scene especially in its entirety because he continued to bother Lorelai. When she was ordering breakfast at Luke's Diner, he kept talking about food. Clearly, he was hungry and he should have ordered something to eat which is what Lorelai told him to do. But no he would rather continue with the juice fast when he was obviously hungry.

Fashion Meets Fandom: Lorelai Gilmore's Pink Coat

Lorelai Gilmore wore a really cute pink coat in the Gilmore Girls revival series A Year in the Life: Winter. Lorelai has such a vibrant personality that it's hard to image her wearing something boring and bland. What I like about this coat besides being an amazing piece is that although it's structured it's not boring or stuffy. It's sophisticated with a casual feel.

Quote: Rory and Lorelai Gilmore

Rory: Okay, our house is burning down, and you can save the cake or me. What do you choose?

Lorelai: Well that's not fair. The cake doesn't have legs.

Quote: Rory and Lorelai Gilmore

Rory: I can't finish all this and sleep at the same time.

Lorelai: You have to sleep. It's what keeps you pretty.

Rory: Who cares if I'm pretty if I fail my finals?

Lorelai: Okay. You've got this so completely backwards.

Fandom Friday: Three Relationships That Don't Work

It's Friday, what fandom thoughts are on your mind? I was thinking about a few relationships that didn't (or don't) seem to work:

- On Gilmore Girls, I never thought Lorelai Gilmore and Christopher Hayden were ever a good match. Although, he may have been her childhood high school boyfriend and the father of her daughter Rory that didn't mean they were good for each other. Throughout the series there was always this push in the writing to get them together even though Lorelai and Luke Danes worked so much better. It took Luke being written out of character to lead to him and Lorelai breaking up so that she could finally get back together with Christopher. I guess this finally gave the writers the chance to explore the relationship between Lorelai and Christopher.

Why was Luke Danes out of character for the sixth season of Gilmore Girls?

Why was Luke Danes written out of character for Gilmore Girls' sixth season? It was as if, the writers had ran out of ideas for Lorelai Gilmore and Luke's relationship and wanted to figure out a way to get Lorelai with her former high school boyfriend (and her daughter Rory's father) Christopher Hayden. In order to do that, the writers had to create forced drama between Luke and Lorelai along with Luke being written out of character.

Luke's change started in the sixth season episode "The Prodigal Daughter Returns" where the writers had Luke make a big deal of telling Lorelai they needed to be honest with each other. However, to then later turn around and have Luke not tell Lorelai when he found out he was the father of 12 years old April Nardini. April had stopped by Luke's diner to see if she could use a hair sample from him for a science project. Luke didn't know that the project was to determine whether or not he was her father. He was certainly surprised when he saw her project.

Characters Reading: Lorelai Gilmore

In the Gilmore Girls series, Rory might have been the biggest bookworm but her mother Lorelai Gilmore was an extensive reader as well. Throughout the show and the revival, Lorelai mentioned or talked about a lot of books. It's easy to see how Rory became such an avid reader because her mom (as well as her grandparents Emily and Richard) were big into reading.

In Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life - Summer episode, Lorelai Gilmore was reading "Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail" by Cheryl Strayed. This book played a huge part in the final episode Fall where Lorelai was inspired to hike the trail (even though she never quite managed to do it).

Okay, side note: I love the navy blue wedges next to her chair, they are so cute.

Geek on a Budget: Four Money Saving Tips I Learned from Gilmore Girls

I think you can learn quite a few things from watching your favorite TV shows and movies such as home decor tips to money tips. And for this Geek on a Budget post, I noticed something interesting about how some of the Gilmore Girls characters deal with money. Here are the four things I learned:

1. Don't Order Take Out Food Daily

Throughout the series Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory either ordered take out food from the various places around Stars Hollow or got something to eat at Luke's Diner on a daily basis. That's a lot of money when you stop and think about it. I think the hard part for serial take out foodies will be breaking the convenience factor and cutting expenses by cooking a few meals at home throughout the week.

Three "Gilmore Girls" Characters Besides Rory Gilmore Who Like to Read

I know Rory Gilmore is considered the Ultimate Book Nerd (which I will discuss in another post) but there were other characters on the Gilmore Girls TV series who also had an interest in reading. Lorelai Gilmore, Richard Gilmore and Jess Mariano represent the average reader to the book worm and I wanted to focus a little on what I observed about them.

Lorelai Gilmore - The Average Reader

As a single mom working a full time job as well as at one point taking college courses (in which she graduated from a community college with a business degree), Lorelai didn't have a lot of free time to sit around reading. However, she found the time for it because throughout the series you could occasionally see her reading various books. Although, she didn't read as much as Rory (but who did) you can tell that she enjoyed reading just as much as her daughter did. Lorelai is more or less the average reader who reads for pleasure.

Richard Gilmore - The Balanced Reader

Richard is an avid reader, for instance he reads several newspapers daily while also constantly staying up-to-date with business/Insurance industry news. He also had a love of reading books and he enjoyed recommending various ones to his granddaughter Rory and wanting to discuss them with her as well. He might have been a bit stodgy and reserved but I noticed that whenever he found an interest in something and wanted to discuss it, it seemed to break him out of his stuffy shell at least temporarily. Richard is what I would consider to be a balanced reader because he reads for both business and pleasure.

Jess Mariano - The Book Worm

The thing I found so annoying about Jess was when he first arrived in Stars Hollow, he showed up angry and he wanted to take out his frustrations on his Uncle Luke and the town the minute he showed up there. Jess wasn't going to his classes and was constantly causing trouble at school and throughout the town.

Another thing I found annoying was that he used his troubles to mask his intelligence. Initially the only person he let know that he loved to read was Rory. He's a big reader and can become totally engrossed in a story. He has a good understanding of what he reads which you notice when he is discussing a particular book or books in general. Jess eventually wrote a book and opened a bookstore which totally marks him as a book worm.
