Most Memorable Moment: Clark Kent Dancing with Lana Lang at the Prom (Smallville)

This was such an interesting prom scene from the Smallville episode Spirit (season 4 episode 18) because there were a wide array of emotions shown from all the characters. From Clark Kent's surprise at seeing Lana Lang to Lana's nervousness of being at the prom. To both Lois Lane and her cousin (still not a fan of this) Chloe Sullivan feeling a little melancholy to Martha and Jonathan Kent's shock melt into happiness to Jason Teague's jealousy at seeing Clark and Lana dancing.

There was just so many emotions in this scene. I always found it interesting that despite Lois saying that she wasn't the one Clark wanted to dance with, you could see on her face after he left that she was experiencing some sort of emotion about it. Perhaps she did want to dance with him. But at that point in time Clark only had feelings for Lana who unfortunately was dating Jason (who in my opinion was using Lana because she had a connection to the stones). Jason might have cared for Lana but he was still using her.

Now back to Lois, the irony of her telling her cousin "You're headed for Metropolis. You are destined to be a big shot reporter at the Daily Planet." Which as we all know, is Lois' destiny. I have to mention that very bright and tacky pink dress and equally tacky earrings that Lois was wearing (maybe I'll do a Fashion Meets Comics for it). That look was so not Lois, however, it was all thanks to Dawn Stiles' ghost who had possessed her. Ugly dress or not at least Dawn did an amazing job with Lois' makeup because that was perfect. The sad thing was that one way or another Dawn was so set on being Prom Queen and she kept possessing different people to try to achieve that. Meanwhile, I just love Lana's complete look, it was very old Hollywood glam. Hair, dress, accessories and makeup, it was all perfect. And Clark had a very nice simple tuxedo that looked great on him.

They really had the perfect song playing with Lifehouse performing their song "You and Me". Because as the scene closes, there's Clark and Lana happily slow dancing without a care in the world not realizing the swirl of emotions all around them. They are just so blissfully unaware. This was just a memorable scene.

Fandom Thoughts #6: Buck and Eddie (Battle of the Ships), The Mandalorian and Lana Lang (Smallville)

Happy Monday! Here are some of my Fandom Thoughts:

- Congratulations to 9-1-1 characters Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz and Evan "Buck" Buckley for winning first place in the Tell-Tale TV's Battle of the Ship. They won for the category Ship You'd Most Like to See Sail. I wrote more about Buck and Eddie's win in a post at Truly Outrageous Buck and Eddie.

- On Sunday, I rewatched the third season of The Mandalorian. I really love this show and it was so wonderful revisiting this season. I just love how the story was going for Din, Grogu and The Mandalorians. As well as seeing how the remnants of the Empire were still trying to hold on to power. This was just a good season and now I can't wait for The Mandalorian & Grogu movie which unfortunately will not be released until sometime in 2026.

- Over the weekend, I also rewatched a few episodes of Smallville. I was surprised that I found myself wondering if Lana Lang should of had a spinoff. Because as the series went on, her character seemed like it had outgrown the series. And you could tell the writers didn't know what to do with her character (the same thing with Chloe Sullivan who was not one of my favorite characters). Anyway, after Lana's final episode Requiem (season 8 episode 14), it would have been interesting following her character in a spinoff as she faced new challenges after she turned herself into a superhero.

I'm not a big fan of the Lana Lang character, there are very few versions of the character that I like. However, I like the Smallville version. Maybe I'll post my favorite (and possibly least favorite) versions of Lana in a separate post. Okay, back to what I was saying, I thought Lana's journey was something very interesting because I could see her using her new superpowers and abilities trying to help others. And not to mention Lana's superhero journey would be something very different to Clark Kent's who was at that point in the eighth season still in the process to becoming the superhero Superman we all know and love

Christmas Countdown Day #8: Clark Kent Delivers Toys for Christmas (Smallville)

In the Smallville episode Lexmas (season 5 episode 9), Clark Kent was delivering all the Toys for Tots presents throughout Metropolis. He was trying to make sure all the kids in need received their presents for Christmas. It's been a while since I've rewatched this episode but I think there was a strike that made it impossible for the toys to be delivered. So, Clark was asked by his friend Chloe Sullivan if he could deliver all the toys. And in delivering the toys, Clark met a disillusioned man dressed as Santa who was disappointed with the current state of the world.

Of course Clark being the hero that he is, was going to help. He talked to the guy which made Santa realize that there was still some good in the world. Due to Santa being a little drunk (okay a lot drunk), Clark also had to save him when he fell off the roof. But as drunk as he was, he most likely forgot what happened when he was saved.

Video: Smallville Theme Song and Opening Credits

I know I've said this before but I wish shows would go back to having theme songs and opening credits because it just adds that little something extra to the show. Although Smallville's theme song Save Me by Remy Zero wasn't officially created for the series but whoever selected it for the show made the perfect choice.

Despite all the Superhero shows that have aired over the years, Smallville is still one of the longest running shows. It ran for 10 years from 2001-2011 and it follow a young Clark Kent as he figured out his growing powers and used them to be a hero. It's still one of my favorite shows and yes, there were episodes and seasons that weren't the best especially as Chloe Sullivan got way too much screentime. And the writers didn't know what to do with either her or Lana Lang but the show was still very much worth watching. Especially once Lois Lane was introduced in the fourth season and her and Clark has this immediate chemistry that overshadowed any romantic relationships they had with other characters. I also loved the introduction of Clark's cousin Kara Zor-El/Kara Kent a.k.a. Supergirl in the seventh season.

However, to this day, I still hate that they killed off Jimmy Olsen. And after the backlash, they gave a flimsy excuse that he wasn't the real Jimmy but the older brother who would influnce the real Jimmy to become a Photo Journalist. Anyway, I still enjoy watching this show and one day I hope to get the Blu ray boxset. Here's the Theme Song and Opening Credits for all ten seasons of Smallville.

Happy New Year's Day (+ a Geeky Holiday List)

How is everyone's first day of the New Year?

So far, it's off to a good and relaxing start. I wanted to continue the New Year's celebration by ringing in 2023 with a Geeky New Year's Day Holiday List which features the first episode of several shows. You ever notice how sometimes a first episode or pilot can be so fun, interesting and good that you can't wait to see the next episode. While other times, the first episode could be bad or mediocre and you're just hoping that the show will only improve from there.

There are 25 shows on this list and since, I couldn't include all the shows in Labels, so please scroll through the list and see if it's something on here you might want to watch.

Happy Halloween! (+ a Geeky Holiday List)

Happy Halloween!

It's the final day of the month and one of the best since it's Halloween. Did you celebrate over the weekend or are you planning something for today? The only thing I did over the weekend was go to my favorite bookstore on Saturday because there was a fun little Halloween themed event and sale (I got a few books). Later that night, I went over to my friend's house for a mini horror movie marathon. So tonight, I'm just going to relax at home and watch TV while eating some Halloween candy.

And speaking of watching TV, for this geeky Halloween list, I kind of went old school/retro/modern classics for most of the picks. Hopefully, there's something on the list that will interest someone. Here's also the links to my two (1 and 2) previous geeky lists. Well, ghouls and goblins, I hope everyone will have a spooktacular Halloween!

Fandom Friday: Random Fandom Thoughts #25

Happy Friday! I can't believe it's already Friday, how has your week been? Mine has been pretty good. With that said, I want to know what fandom thoughts are on your mind?

- I know it's an unpopular opinion in the 9-1-1 fandom but I would like to see Margaret and Philip Buckley return for the sixth season. I know a lot of the fandom doesn't like them but I feel these were people who never dealt with the grief of the death of their son Daniel and ended up shutting down and closing themselves off from their remaining children, Maddie and Evan "Buck". In the fourth season episode Jinx, Buck had mentioned that him and his parents were attending a few therapy sessions, which I figure were virtual. I think it would be nice to see how the therapy sessions went and if they helped the Buckley parents to understand their grief and how it resulted in how they raised Maddie and Buck. It would also be nice to see them acknowledging that they were distant and that they want to get to know as well as love their adult children especially since over the years they weren't really there for them.

Quote: Clark Kent and Lois Lane (Smallville)

Clark: You know...If you spent as much time studying as you did trying to leave, you'd be in college already.

Lois: And where'd you get that pearl of wisdom, the Farmer's Almanac?

Clark: So, what do you think?

Lois: They're not really your colors.

Clark: They're the school's colors.

Lois: I'm glad you made the team, Clark, but why be a conformist? At least with the whole farm boy plaid thing, as lame as it is, it completely belongs to you.

Clark: In the future, let's restrict our conversations to "hello" and "goodbye."

Entertainment News: Smallville getting a 20th Anniversary Blu-ray Edition

I wasn't planning on turning this into SuperTuesday but it's just been announced by Warner Bros. that Smallville is getting a special 20th Anniversary Blu-ray complete series release. It's going to be available Tuesday, October 19th and will be priced at $179.99. I'm sure it'll probably go on sale at some point but for now that's the announced price. I've been thinking of rebuying Smallville because a few of my discs from some of the seasons have started to show a little wear and tear. I think I'll wait and get the Blu ray version instead.

As for the boxset, it will include all 10 seasons 218 episodes along with at least 30 hours of extras such as:

- The Adventures of Superboy – The original 1961 pilot starring John Rockwell.

- A Retrospective Look at the Series’ 10-Year Journey – An in-depth, season-by-season look at the creation of this landmark television series. Highlights include interviews with Tom Welling, Eric Durance, Michael Rosenbaum, Phil Morris, John Schneider and many more, as well as rare behind-the-scenes footage.

- A Decade of Comic-Con Featurette

- Paley Festival Featurette

- Smallville’s 100th Episode: Making of a Milestone – An extended version of the original featurette included in the Season 5 set.

- Secret Origin: The American Story of DC Comics – A feature length documentary chronicling DC’s 75 years of challenges, creativity, and triumph.

- Audio Commentaries, Deleted and Extended Scenes, Gag Reels, Behind-the-scenes featurettes and much more from all 10 seasons!

Fandom Friday: Three Relationships That Don't Work

It's Friday, what fandom thoughts are on your mind? I was thinking about a few relationships that didn't (or don't) seem to work:

- On Gilmore Girls, I never thought Lorelai Gilmore and Christopher Hayden were ever a good match. Although, he may have been her childhood high school boyfriend and the father of her daughter Rory that didn't mean they were good for each other. Throughout the series there was always this push in the writing to get them together even though Lorelai and Luke Danes worked so much better. It took Luke being written out of character to lead to him and Lorelai breaking up so that she could finally get back together with Christopher. I guess this finally gave the writers the chance to explore the relationship between Lorelai and Christopher.

Art of the Day: Lois Lane

Artwork: Lois Lane by CaityKitty13

I loved watching the first three seasons of Smallville but when Lois Lane was added to the fourth season it was just what the show needed. Erica Durance brought in so much unexpected energy as Lois that it made an already good show even better.

Super Bowl Geeky Holiday TV List

I know Super Bowl Sunday is seen as the ultimate sporting event/holiday but I have absolutely no interest in watching the game. In the past, I would go to Super Bowl parties mainly to hang out with my friends. But then I realized aside from being with my friends the game was so boring. Ever since then, I would either hang out with like minded non-football friends and I do something fun with them or spend the day by myself doing whatever I wanted.

So, for my fellow non-football fans, I decided to create a geeky football list of shows to watch. I may not like football but I can enjoy it when it's on a show. Whether you watch any of the shows on my list or watch something else, don't forget the snacks.

Festivus: The Airing of Grievances: Chloe Sullivan, Finn and Padmé Amidala

I totally forgot it's Festivus and with that comes the Airing of Grievances. Here are few of mine:

- I really wish Chloe Sullivan was written off of Smallville after the fourth season. She was important to Clark's story in high school but afterwards she should have been written off so that Clark could start to figure out who he was in the next chapter in his life. After Chloe found out Clark's secret that he was an alien and had powers in the fourth season, she had become the "brain" and would provide all the answers to whatever problems Clark needed to deal with. Unfortunately, this went on for several seasons making it seem as if Clark couldn't figure out anything on his own. Which was not true because prior to Chloe finding out, Clark solved all his hero problems on his own in seasons 1-3 and most of season 4. It was obvious the writers didn't know what to do with Chloe and she stayed on the show for way too long. It wasn't until the later seasons that Clark was finally able to start thinking for himself again.

Happy National Coffee Day! (+ a Geeky TV and Movie List)

I may not be a fan of coffee (I'm a tea drinker) but there are a lot who are and that includes many of my family, friends and Book Girl readers. So while you're sitting in your favorite spot and celebrating the day with a hot cup of coffee, I hope you're taking your time to enjoy every sip along with a yummy pastry.

Happy National Coffee Day! Below is a coffee themed Geeky TV and Movie List to enjoy as well.

Fashion Meets Comics: Kara Kent (Smallville)

Smallville's seventh season introduced fans to the real Kara Zor-El. I say that because in the third season final episode Covenant there was a girl with powers claiming to be Clark's cousin Kara from Krypton. Unfortunately, she was not who Clark thought she was and she certainly was not the real Kara.

Which brings us back to the seventh season when Kara finally appeared. What I like about this version is that she's headstrong, confident and a little impulsive. While she was trying to get to know her cousin Clark, she was also trying to familiarize herself with being on Earth and living in Smallville, Kansas. There was definitely a period of adjustment for her and she was trying her best to fit in. But she went from Krypton's highly advanced world to ours, nothing can really prepare you for that. She truly was in a different world.

Fashion Meets Comics: Lois Lane's Workout Outfit (Smallville)

Although, we are currently forced to stay home, it doesn't mean we can't workout. However, in Lois Lane's case she probably should have stayed home instead of going running because she was nearly hit by a barn door. And that was due to Clark Kent accidentally sneezing the door off his family's barn in the Smallville episode perfectly titled "Sneeze".

Lois' outfit in that scene is an absolute style inspiration because it's colorful, athletic and has a slight retro feel to it. This feels very 70s chic and I thought it would be cool to use for a Fashion Meets Comics post.

What are your thoughts on Smallville's pilot episode?

I thought the pilot episode of Smallville was perfect. There are not many first episodes I would say that about but Smallville truly pulled it off. The showrunners did a fantastic job of keeping classic elements of the Superman origin story but also introducing changes that allowed the story to feel new and fresh in 2001 despite the Man of Steel at that point in time having been around for 63 years.

Lana Lang's Inspiring Fight to Save the Talon (Smallville)

In the first season of Smallville, Lana Lang proved that if it's something you feel passionate about you should fight for it. When she found out that her Aunt Nell had sold the Talon movie theater, Lana tried to convince the new owner, Lex Luthor to restore it. However, Lex had plans to convert the building into a parking garage and turned down her request. Something I found interesting is that despite being disappointed yet again, Lana didn't let that stop her from a second attempt at convincing Lex not to tear down the theater.

In her first attempt, she tried to appeal to Lex's feelings and emotions but this time she was more prepared and presented a detailed business plan which included an idea to turn the theater into a coffee shop. The plan would also keep a small section of the theater to be used to show movies and to hold various functions. By appealing to Lex's analytical side, she was able to convince him that saving the Talon would not only be beneficial but also potentially profitable.

Lex accepting her business proposal was the start of a partnership that would have Lana taking on the role of co-business founder and manager. Combine that with being a high school student, she took on this ambitious task until her senior year of high school where she planned to go to art school in Paris, France. However, that didn't quite workout and she returned to Smallville to complete high school and to reopen the Talon but this time with her living in the apartment above the coffee shop. Another change had Martha Kent taking over as manager with Lana still overseeing the business.

What I found interesting about Lana was that in the episode Hotheads (season 1 episode 3), she was such a terrible waitress at the Smallville Beanery coffee shop that she ended up getting fired. I understand, she was a nervous newly hired waitress who could barely get orders right but once she started managing and working at the Talon, she had a much better grasp on taking orders and preparing drinks. I figure Lana took it serious that she was running a business and put a lot of time and energy into making sure the Talon succeeded.

For me the life lesson I got from Lana Lang is don't be afraid to take risks and fight for something you care about. It might have taken two chances but she did save the Talon which is why I was so disappointed that it was destroyed when Rick Flag blew it up in the final season episode Ambush (season 10 episode 7). All her hard work wasn't in vain because despite the Talon's destruction, she still created a successful business.
