Happy Halloween!

Today is the last and final day of the month and one of my favorite holidays, Halloween! Do you have any fun and spooky plans for the day? Well, since I have a cold, I'm not going out anywhere. The only thing I'm going to do is lounge on the sofa watching scary movies and Halloween episodes while eating popcorn, candy and other snacks.

I want to wish all the fathers a very Happy Father's Day!

My dad's a quiet guy, he may not be big on words but his kindness and actions have always shown all his love. I want to say to all of the fathers, please know there is no perfect way to be a dad. But if you show your child or children how much you love, care, respect and support them. That will go a long way and to them you will always be the perfect dad.

I hope that we all have a great day spending time celebrating with our dads. And to anyone who is unable to be with their dad or doesn't have the best experiences with their dad, I very much wish you a happy day.

However you're celebrating Father's Day, I want to wish everyone a wonderful holiday or Sunday. I hope the day is filled with good times and good food. And if you're looking for something to watch, below is my Geeky Holiday List.

Fashion Meets Fandom (with a Cause): Kerry Washington's "Black Women TV Lawyers" Sweatshirt

Is there a fandom for TV Lawyers? Well, if so, here's a sweatshirt TV Lawyer fans might want. Actress Kerry Washington created this sweatshirt with the Phenomenal company to celebrate TV’s greatest Black female lawyers. The sweatshirt features the names of eight Black TV Lawyers: Clair Huxtable (The Cosby Show), Joan Clayton (Girlfriends), Maxine "Max" Shaw (Living Single), Jessica Pearson (Suits and Pearson), Olivia Pope (Scandal), Annalise Keating (How to Get Away with Murder), Molly Carter (Insecure) and Jax Stewart (Reasonable Doubt). Under the cut, I included pictures of most of the actresses who starred as these characters wearing the sweatshirt.

What I like about these characters is that they're smart, confident, motivated, cunning, stylish, inspiring, sophisticated, bold, entertaining, a little zany and a force to be reckoned with. I really like this sweatshirt and the only thing I would change is switching Joan and Max's places on the shirt since Living Single aired before Girlfriends. Other than that, it's cool. I do hope another shirt will be made because then Winifred "Freddie" Brooks (A Different World) and Deirdre "Dee Dee" Thorne (Half & Half) names could be added. Although, Freddie was in law school during the final season of A Different World, she still counts. And after Dee Dee graduated from law school, she was using her lawyer skills as a sports agent which also still counts.

As for the cause, all net proceeds benefit the nonprofit organization, NAACP Legal Defense Fund. According to the organization's mission statement, "The Legal Defense Fund (LDF) is America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Using the power of law, narrative, research, and people, we defend and advance the full dignity and citizenship of Black people in America."

I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving. Whether you are celebrating alone or with others, I hope everyone will enjoy a day full of celebration, good food, creating new memories, peace, happiness and good health on this day and all others. Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy National Siblings Day! Who are your favorite fictional siblings?

In honor of National Siblings Day, I wanted to know who are your favorite fictional siblings? I have so many from King T'Challa and Princess Shuri to Thor and Loki to the Brady and Weasley siblings there are just too many to list which is why I only included a few below:


1. Mona and Deirdre "Dee Dee" Thorne (Half & Half)

Favorite Character: Denise Huxtable (The Cosby Show)

I've been rewatching The Cosby Show and the spinoff A Different World and it made me remember how cool and quirky Denise Huxtable was. She's one of my favorite characters and I think what made her cool was that she wasn't trying to be, she just was. While Denise at times can be a little flighty, scatterbrain and disorganized, she's smart, outspoken, spontaneous, fun-loving, kind and always willing to help her family and friends.

As for her style, it was just as eccentric and bohemian as she was and included so many crazy combinations that she pulled off with total confidence. I noticed her style matured a bit after she got married. It still had that quirky vibe to it but a little more polished. Denise didn't shy away from keeping her wardrobe interesting from quintessential 1980's pieces to wearing 1920's inspired pieces, she wore it all. She was a true fashion and beauty icon because she didn't follow any rules. She wore her hair in multiple styles, from short and punk to long and curly, she even wore long dreadlocks as well as 1920's inspired finger waves.

Trying to figure out a way to meet someone can be a little daunting sometimes, which is why Pam Tucker in The Cosby Show episode "It's a Boy" used a book as a clever way to meet a cute boy.

Since she was reading "Henry V" by William Shakespeare as required reading for one of her classes, she used it as a way to strike up an easy-going and engaging conversation with Aaron Dexter (who I already featured on another Characters Reading post).

In The Cosby Show episode "It's a Boy", Aaron Dexter was reading "Devil in a Blue Dress" by Walter Mosley. Aaron was very smart and sort of shy but he was a really nice and kind guy that Pam Tucker liked.

I love watching old TV shows, you never know what actors you will spot. As a Teen Wolf and The Walking Dead fan, it was so cool recognizing a young Seth Gilliam when he appeared in this episode and a few other episodes of The Cosby Show.
