Happy Halloween!

Today is the last and final day of the month and one of my favorite holidays, Halloween! Do you have any fun and spooky plans for the day? Well, since I have a cold, I'm not going out anywhere. The only thing I'm going to do is lounge on the sofa watching scary movies and Halloween episodes while eating popcorn, candy and other snacks.

How is everyone's first day of the New Year?

So far, it's off to a good and relaxing start. I wanted to continue the New Year's celebration by ringing in 2023 with a Geeky New Year's Day Holiday List which features the first episode of several shows. You ever notice how sometimes a first episode or pilot can be so fun, interesting and good that you can't wait to see the next episode. While other times, the first episode could be bad or mediocre and you're just hoping that the show will only improve from there.

Happy St. Patrick's Day and Comic Book Wednesday!

I'm really surprised, I'm not watching the Superman & Lois TV series. You would think that as a big Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane fan, I would be watching this show (which I hear is good) but so far I have no interest in watching the show. I think it's the whole small town/suburban parent vibe this show has that's left me with little interest in seeing it. I guess I wanted to see a Superman show set in Metropolis and not another one set in Smallville. I don't know, maybe I'll watch the first season when it's released on DVD but for now I really don't have any interest in this show.

But a show I do want to watch is The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, it's looks really exciting. I can't wait to see how these two idiots will try to figure out there place in the hero world.

All that aside, what books are you picking up today? I have four on my list that I eagerly want to read especially Nightwing. I feel like so many of the previous stories involving "Ric" Grayson dragged on for way too long. That's why I am so happy for a new creative team and see what they will do with this new arc.

Since, it's St. Patrick's Day, don't forget to wear green when you pick up your books.

I love red lipstick, it's beautiful and totally brightens up your face and makes you stand out which could be a bad thing if you're wearing the wrong shade. There is no one-shade-fits-all red lipstick, you just have to find the one that flatters you. And once you do, you just have to wear it confidently.

You can wear red lipstick a number of ways but here are four examples to get you started: Classic, Glossy, Matte and Sheer. I do have a tip for novice users, try a sheer version first. It will give you a chance to get used to the color without it feeling too bold.

Six Interesting Things About the "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" Pilot

I love watching superheroes shows, it doesn't matter if they're old or new. One of my favorite old shows is the 1990s Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. The pilot episode was a movie that was a Superman origin story and during a recent rewatch I noticed a few things I found interesting.

Lois Lane Friday: Lois Lane as Ultra Woman

I'm not a big fan of Lois Lane having powers simply because she doesn't need them to be a hero. She's already a hero as a world class investigative reporter for The Daily Planet. However there have been many times when she has gotten powers including Superman's such as in the Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman episode Ultrawoman.

In that episode, Superman's powers were accidentally transferred to Lois after two sisters Lucille and Nell Newtrich used a red kryptonite laser to change Superman's personality. They wanted to make it easier to for them to commit crimes by making Superman unmotivated to care about fighting crime. But due to red kryptonite's unpredictability it caused Lois to gain his powers instead.

She was going to need an immediate crash course on being a superhero because while Clark was without his powers, Lois was going to have to take over. Which she did as the super hero Ultra Woman and she even got a colorful costume (thanks to Martha Kent) to keep her identity a secret while she fought crime.

Lois is at her best when she is investigating and unveiling the truth as a reporter but I think she did a pretty good job as Ultra Woman. It also gave her a better understanding of how difficult it can be for Clark to be Superman because as a hero it's a job that includes a lot of responsibility and making tough decisions.

Was Cat Grant "Too Risqué" for Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman?

I love watching the 1990s Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (I have the complete series sitting on my shelf) it had an interesting take on the world of Superman but one thing I found really disappointing was that Cat Grant was only on the first season. This was one of my favorite versions of the character. Cat was fun and exuberant, she loved being the center of attention and enjoyed all aspects of her life from her career as a reporter at the Daily Planet to her active social life. I don't understand why she was only on one season, she was great.

It's been suggested that ABC considered the character to be too risqué because Lois & Clark was considered a family show. I think that was a ridiculous excuse because this was a superhero show that featured adult characters with plenty of adult drama. I find it interesting that no one seemed to have any problems with all the sexy scenes between Lois and Clark in the later seasons of the show. However, Cat was the one considered risqué because of the way she was shown.

The 90s were seen as the Third-Wave of Feminism and this version of Cat Grant (and Lois Lane) represented that. Cat was shown as a sexually empowered woman of the 90s who enjoyed her life. She excelled at her career and didn't let anyone tell her how she should dress, behave or express herself. She did what she wanted. But I guess this didn't work for the executives at ABC since Cat was cut from the series without any explanation.

I don't think she was too risqué, she might have been over-the-top but Cat brought something unexpected and fun to the series. Had Cat stayed on the show, it would have been interesting to see what the showrunners would have done with her character. Since she's a good reporter, they could have shown more of her investigating different stories and maybe even delving a bit into her backstory. Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman is still a fun show to watch but without Cat, seasons 2-4 always felt like something was missing.

Happy Vote Day! (+ My Vote Day Watch Party List)

Today, I will be going to vote (I hope you did or will be) and since I'm sure the lines will be long, I will be taking my favorite Voting Day reading material Batgirl: The Greatest Stories Ever Told. I love all the stories in this book and there are several that feature Barbara Gordon running for Congress. She believed that going into politics would give her a bigger opportunity to make a difference and not just in small ways as being a superhero.

Throughout the day to avoid stressing out over the poll results I'm going to have a Vote Day Watch Party. I will be watching a few political themed movies, a miniseries and a few episodes from some of my favorite shows. I may not get to watch everything but I'll do my best. I already have plenty of snacks in the kitchen all I have do is figure out what to watch first.

Hopefully by the end of the evening, I will be a more calm and relaxed person when the election results are in.

Fashion Meets Comics: Cat Grant (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman)

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman's Catherine "Cat" Grant was totally outrageous but she was so much fun to watch on the show. Cat was all about the sex appeal and making a statement and her wardrobe exuded that. From form fitting dresses to bold accessories, she wore it all. Case in point, in the first season tenth episode "Man of Steel Bars", she actually wore bikinis to work when Metropolis was experiencing an extreme heat wave.

As the Daily Planet's Society Columnist, she's attends all types of social events as well as the occasional press conference. Although her look maybe more va-va-voom, she did surprisingly wear a few modest skirt suits from time to time on the show.

I always thought Cat's style perfectly reflected her personality. There was nothing shy about Cat, she's confident and out spoken and so was her wardrobe. What I like about this version of Cat Grant is that she had a sense of humor and enjoyed her life. She also was a good reporter.

For this Fashion Meets Comics I wanted to pick pieces that were fun, sexy and statement worthy. To me Cat is someone who knows who she is and isn't seeking anyone's approval. I took all that into account when I put together this post.

Fashion Meets Comics - Guy's Edition: Clark Kent's Ties (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman)

When watching an episode of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman it's hard not to notice Clark Kent's ties. They stood out because of the bold colors and patterns, however, they were not so busy that they were distracting.

For this Fashion Meets Comics, I thought about what would work for today's Clark Kent. As a reporter, he is very busy with running around chasing down leads, conducting interviews and typing up articles. He's professional but certainly not boring and stuffy. With that in mind, I chose to stick with bold patterns for that eye-catching effect but I tried my best to avoid anything that looked too 90s.

Happy Christmas Eve, if you're anything like me and still need to wrap gifts (or buy a few last minute gifts). Don't get stressed out. Whether you're with family and friends or by yourself, have fun wrapping gifts. To make the most of it why not play Christmas music or watch some of your favorite Christmas movies or TV shows. Lay out snacks, bake cookies or do whatever it is that will make you relax and enjoy the moment.

Fashion Meets Comics: Lois Lane (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman)

The 90s was all about the power suit and Lois Lane from Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman's wardrobe definitely reflected that. As the high-flying star reporter, Lois wore tailored pant or skirt suits. She had a no-nonsense approach to fashion especially during the first season. But as the series progressed her style changed to incorporate more non-work related fashionable pieces.

75th Anniversary: The New Adventures of Superman's Lois and Clark: From Rivals to Romance

This is my fourth installment for the 75th Anniversary of Action Comics #1 and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman is getting the focus today.

I thought Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman was a really great show. We got to see how a rivalry turned into a real romance. It's hard to image with Lois Lane being such a cynic while Clark Kent had such a sunny personality. But it happened.

I found Lois to be smart, self-assured and maybe a bit too proud of all her career achievements. She was the quintessential 90s woman and prior to meeting Clark Kent, she was only concerned with her professional life.

But just as Lois was basking in the glory as top reporter at the Daily Planet, in walks Clark Kent her soon to be rival. Right from the start you could see that Clark was a nice guy who had instantly fallen for Lois. But she didn't really see Clark as a rival at first, she mostly regarded him with animosity because unfortunately for Clark, she only saw him as a pest and a small time reporter who didn't measure up to her reporter skills. But her point of view would change as soon as they were partnered, Lois was quickly finding out Clark was a very good reporter, which kicked off the rivalry.

Throughout the first season, you saw an intense rivalry but it was also pretty funny especially once Superman appeared on the scene which caused Lois to do some crazy things trying to get a story on the Man of Steel. For instance in the episode "Neverending Battle", Clark had no choice but to pull a prank on Lois, due to the underhanded tricks she was using to be the first to get her story. This showed Lois that Clark could easily match her competitive streak and the results were really funny. Lois & Clark: TNAOS is probably the only live-action adaption of Superman that prominently showed the rivalry in such detail, the second would be Superman: The Animated Series.

I think it was their opposite personalities that also contributed to the rivalry, because initially Lois was tough and not so willing to open up to people and not to mention cynical. While Clark was nice and willing to give people a chance and he had a positive outlook on life. But I think they both truly enjoyed the rivalry because it brought out the best in both of them professionally. As the first season progressed Lois and Clark's rivalry was starting to turn into a bit of friendship and by the end of the season you saw hints of mutual romantic feelings between them although Clark also had to deal with Lois falling for his super persona as well.

By season two, their friendship had started to turn into a real romantic chemistry. Their romance was just as intense as their rivalry. Despite a few distractions, their romance grew until the viewers were finally rewarded with the wedding of Lois Lane and Clark Kent. There was a bit of a delay for the wedding because DC Comics wanted to sync up the wedding in the comic book with the one in the show.

I think the marriage made them an even better team. They were truly the dynamic duo. I thought this show was great, it had great characters, humor, drama, romance, action and adventure and fun stories. I just loved this approach to the Superman mythology, because the show focused mainly on the lives of Lois and Clark with Superman helping out along the way.
