The Love Angeles collection includes: two sweatshirts (one is available two different colors) and a hat. According to the company, 100% of the profits will be donated. I provided the statement below.

Cause: Los Angeles Fire Department

If seeing all the fires burning in Los Angeles feel so scary and devastating, I can only imagine how it must feel living there and experiencing all this. And the firefighters seem to be doing everything they can but they still seem so overwhelmed. And I'm sure their resources are probably spread pretty thin.

So, if you would like to help, you could make a donation to the LAFD Wildfire Emergency Funding Alert at the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation. I made a small donation, it doesn't seem like enough but I'm sure every little bit helps. So, if you can, please make a donation.

Book Girl Thoughts: On the Writers' and Actors' Strikes

As with the Writers' Strike, I totally support the Actors' Strike, neither group should have to deal with terrible working conditions and being offered a terrible contract. I still can't believe that Deadline article where one of the Studio executives stated the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) evil plan of wanting the writers to run out money which will lead to the them losing their homes. And once that happens they will then be willing to go back to negotiating with the writers and can offer them a terrible deal. How evil are these overly paid CEOs of these studios that they are gleefully okay with people losing their homes? They probably feel the same way about the actors as well.

And now you have the Disney CEO stating that these strikes are disruptive and what the writers and actors want are unrealistic. However, I'm sure he has no problem excepting all the money that Disney gives him. I'm so glad that both the writers and actors are striking and I hope they win because the AMPTP could have ended these strikes before they even started by truly offering both groups better contracts.

I just wanted to post my thoughts and if you would like to show support to the writers and actors striking (as well as the teamsters and IATSE members affected by the strikes), please make a donation to the Entertainment Community Fund. Although there are some big names in Hollywood, there are so many more writers and actors who barely make do which is why they are fighting for a better deal.

Fashion with a Cause: WGA Strike Shirts

The WGA (Writers Guild of America) has entered its ninth week of striking. And unfortunately there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. Not with negotiations with the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) still not happening. So to ensure that the writers get financial help because despite the glitz and glam of Hollywood most of the writers are paycheck to paycheck or barely earning enough to survive. And now that none of them are working there are a few organizations such as the Entertainment Community Fund set up to offer help.

Another way to help and show support for the Writers Strike is by ordering a shirt from WGA Strike Shirt. Available on the site are a variety of shirts in various colors which also includes two shirts for kids. 100% of the net proceeds from all sales will be donated to the Entertainment Community Fund. For this Fashion with a Cause post, I only included four shirts but as I stated above there are more shirts available.

Fashion Meets Fandom (with a Cause): Kerry Washington's "Black Women TV Lawyers" Sweatshirt

Is there a fandom for TV Lawyers? Well, if so, here's a sweatshirt TV Lawyer fans might want. Actress Kerry Washington created this sweatshirt with the Phenomenal company to celebrate TV’s greatest Black female lawyers. The sweatshirt features the names of eight Black TV Lawyers: Clair Huxtable (The Cosby Show), Joan Clayton (Girlfriends), Maxine "Max" Shaw (Living Single), Jessica Pearson (Suits and Pearson), Olivia Pope (Scandal), Annalise Keating (How to Get Away with Murder), Molly Carter (Insecure) and Jax Stewart (Reasonable Doubt). Under the cut, I included pictures of most of the actresses who starred as these characters wearing the sweatshirt.

What I like about these characters is that they're smart, confident, motivated, cunning, stylish, inspiring, sophisticated, bold, entertaining, a little zany and a force to be reckoned with. I really like this sweatshirt and the only thing I would change is switching Joan and Max's places on the shirt since Living Single aired before Girlfriends. Other than that, it's cool. I do hope another shirt will be made because then Winifred "Freddie" Brooks (A Different World) and Deirdre "Dee Dee" Thorne (Half & Half) names could be added. Although, Freddie was in law school during the final season of A Different World, she still counts. And after Dee Dee graduated from law school, she was using her lawyer skills as a sports agent which also still counts.

As for the cause, all net proceeds benefit the nonprofit organization, NAACP Legal Defense Fund. According to the organization's mission statement, "The Legal Defense Fund (LDF) is America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Using the power of law, narrative, research, and people, we defend and advance the full dignity and citizenship of Black people in America."

Fashion with a Cause: Tote Bag

I love a cute tote bag especially one that's big enough to hold my stuff or durable to use for shopping. But I'd love it even more if it goes towards a good cause. This "Reusable Bag Lady" tote by FEED has a cute message but most importantly provides meals for children.

Lazy Sunday: The Houston Ballet performing to "Dancing with Myself"

I thought this video of the Houston Ballet performing to Billy Idol's song Dancing with Myself was pretty cool and I wanted to share it. This entire routine which was rehearsed over Zoom and choreographed by Stanton Welch features 61 dancers who danced in a range of clothes from colorful pajamas to gowns and suits. I hope this will add a little fun to your Lazy Sunday.

If you would like to support the arts, you can make a donation to the Houston Ballet and your donation will be matched by a grant from The Cullen Trust for the Performing Arts.

A List of Charities to Help the Island Victims of Hurrican Irma

Hurricane Irma pretty much destroyed many of the smaller islands in it's path, with Puerto Rico being a part of the United States, I'm sure it will receive all the aid it needs (at least I hope so). As for the other islands, the people are going to need so much help. I have been looking into legitimate charities that can offer help and a few that I have found were: British Red Cross, Oxfam, Save the Children and UNICEF. If you know of any more charitable organizations please post them in the comment section.

My Heart Goes Out to Houston, TX

I can't believe all the images and video I have been seeing of the flood in Houston, TX. I'm so proud of all the selfless heroism I've seen, there are so many good people out there in the world.

I've seen where many experts are considering this flood to be record breaking with even more rain to follow for the already impacted area. It's sad to hear that there have already been five deaths reported, I truly hope everyone is safe or will be.

If you would like to help, please text HARVEY to 90999 to donate $10.00 to the Red Cross.

Fashion with a Cause: Tyler Hoechlin's "Love is Louder" T-Shirt

Ever since the Teen Choice Awards aired this past Sunday, I've noticed a lot of people talking about the Love is Louder shirt that Tyler Hoechlin wore. So I decided to look into it to see if it was just a random t-shirt or something of meaning. Turns out it's the latter because the shirt represents a group/organization of the same name.

Love is Louder was co-founded by actress and activist Brittany Snow in 2010 as a way to amplify a simple message that love and support are louder than any negative voice that causes pain or tries to bring you down. Love is Louder is a community of people working together to create a world where everyone can feel more connected and supported.

As a positive person, I like the message that Brittany Snow is putting out there with Love is Louder. The world has become so toxic and mean and I like anything that encourages someone to be better and to make the world a better place. It's a powerful message to spread Love when Hate has become so prevalent.

According to the website, if anyone is interested in being a part of the community and spreading more positivity you can sign up for their email list. And also use the hashtag #LoveTogether when on social media.

Below is the link to the T-shirt that Tyler Hoechlin is wearing.

Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!

There are so many things we are doing and can do to take care of the Earth and one is to plant trees. Trees are so important to the environment they provide us with oxygen and are homes to little animals among other things. We may not be like Dr. Pamela Isley a.k.a. Poison Ivy making trees grow at our command but we can plant them.

If planting them yourself isn't an option, then maybe you can make a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation, a nonprofit conservation and education organization. Any donation you're able to give would go towards replanting trees.

How is Rolling Back on Transgender Rights Going to Help Students?

I haven't wrote anything about this administration in a while but it's been nonstop garbage that has been coming out of it. From continuing to go after immigrants and Muslims to going through with the Dakota pipe line, repealing the Affordable Care Act to say the least and now rescinding the federal protection for transgender students' to use the public school bathroom that fits their identity. They are making it difficult for trans students to simply be students. This is not going to help them. All students should be treated equally and rolling back on transgender rights will not do that. I hope schools will protect transgender students and not enforce this.

I have to wonder where is Betsy DeVos isn't she supposed to be in charge of Education how can she allow something like this to happen? I can't believe I actually wrote that, DeVos doesn't care what happens to transgender students, she bought herself a job and she's not going to do anything to help anyone. All she's going to do is further this administration's agenda.

This administration seems to enjoy being cruel as they target people and communities simply because they can. It's only been a month, I wonder who they will target next? The ICE has turned into the Gestapo going after people, we have an administration that lies everyday without any consequences and not to mention the continuous conflict of interest for Donald Trump, he still has not released his tax returns, he and his family continue to waste tax payers money added to a growing list of problems.

I'm mad because everyday there is some new injustice being issued out by this administration. They have shown they don't care for anyone or anything. The only thing we can do is continue to resist and fight, this administration is horribly anti-everything.

If anyone is looking for a way to help here the trans community here are a few organizations to start with (also don't forget to contact your representatives to ask what they are going to do to help fight this latest atrocity):

GLAAD

Trans Lifeline is a non-profit dedicated to the well being of transgender people. They run a hotline staffed by transgender people for transgender people. Trans Lifeline volunteers are ready to respond to whatever support members of their community might have. Click here to make a donation.

Human Rights Campaign

Lambda Legal is a non-profit, national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of LGBTQ community and everyone living with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work.

The Trevor Project The leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ+ youth.

Transgender Law Center works to change law, policy, and attitudes so that all people can live safely, authentically, and free from discrimination regardless of their gender identity or expression.

Ruth Ellis Center serves the needs of runaway, homeless and at-risk LGBTQ youth.

Fashion with a Cause: Bonnie Wright's "Come Dream With Me" Fundraiser

I just found out that director and actress Bonnie Wright (she played Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter movies) has a charitable fundraiser going in support of FilmAid International. FilmAid uses the power of film and media to transcend language and literacy, bringing life-saving information, psychological relief and much-needed hope to refugees and other communities in need around the globe.
